In the last 10 years, I can't remember so much mystery surrounding a player's injury.

I heard that he didn't want it mentioned so that other players don't exploit him in future.

Perhaps his injury may be life threatening and that is why it's not being discussed. It's the only reason I can imagine.

I hope it sorts itself out quickly with a positive outcome.

I'd say Smokey will be going back to smokeyville.

True. There have been a lot of rumours that other players are going to force Crouchie into the sex slavery trade; or at best offer him a WorkChoices contract of $4.50 an hour to work in a juice bar.

Things I have learnt from frequenting football forums:

                    1. The proportion of people who know common sayings by ear, but have no idea how they're written, is quite amazing. It's "male pattern baldness"; although some connection between registering a patent and follicle failure shouldn't be ruled out, I suppose.
                    2. Um...

                              Crouch's tough year

                              September 8, 2006

SYDNEY Midfielder Jared Crouch has revealed how he played during the season with a broken collarbone, a chronic ankle injury, and lower-back and hamstring problems. The 28-year-old has been criticised for choosing not to divulge his injuries, but he did not want opponents to exploit his physical weaknesses. Crouch, who received the ankle injury in last year's grand final, had surgery to insert a pin into the joint on Wednesday night. After recuperation the pin will be removed, and it is expected he will be ready for the 2007 pre-season. He explained yesterday that he had thought the ankle injury was a sprain, but five weeks before the start of the season the ankle froze up, and it was discovered he had torn a tendon.
