I'll be the lonely guy on the Thomas bandwagon & suggest he didn't do too bad a job. Certainly doesn't come over well on the TV & can be an arrogant prat but I read a recent interview with him and I was kinda impressed. There's no question he was only in it coz he's a Saints man thru & thru - if anything, he was rather devoid of ego.

Third last year with their injury list was pretty remarkable and the second half of this season was certainly very good too - he looks a bloody ripper compared to Bomber Thompson at least!

Anyway, I guess at least the Saints have been quick to make the cut & have avoided the Blues debacle. Next coach inherits a super list but has some tuff decisions to make about some of the old boys.

It is not a matter of how he "comes over" when being interviewed or when in the coaches box - what does matter is how he interprets, reads and re-acts to what is happening out on the ground - I have never believed him to be a master tactician and that is where I think he lost the un-loseable with the list (and depth) that he had at his disposal at the Saints - I think he failed in the ultimate delivery - I know, injuries play a part, but to save your best (players) for next week because you have this one in the bag before you start - From memory, Thomas putting Gehrig on Hall last year in an effort to defend himself into a Grand Final rather than attack - Sort of loses all credibility for me.

Yes, I heard that one too. He was one the board had apparently targetted, but considering Carlton have just agreed to keep him, will be interesting to see what happens.

Has Pagan got/signed a contract with the blues yet?

Yeah that was the issue and the only reason why the Blues kept him.

2 years to go on the current contract (600K a year)

A name mentioned on Melbourne radio this morning was Michael Voss. Yes, the same Michael Voss that still has a year to run on his (playing) contract with the Lions but whom most people expect not to play on.

Voss is managed by Ricky Nixon and Nixon has come out and stated that he feels that Voss is the one-in-a-million type of player who could step straight into a head coaching role.

Nixon is also heavily involved at St Kilda.

                  Very left-field though.

And the man who started it all, the Schneiderman . . . . .

You would expect Voss to get instant respect from a playing group. Whether he can sustain it ......?

It will be interesting to see whether this shocks Geelong into action. I'd say it well because they are apparently also keen on Longmire.

So it could strat a bit of a merry go round, especially if Pagan is lined up for one of those two jobs. (That would allow the Blues to release him without paying him out)

I'd spew if Longmire left us now.
Whilst I certainly agree that the man needs to look after his career, I think we still need him here.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

Good news for those who are worried he's being distracted by polishing up his CV and preparing for an interview, in today's Oz:

The former North Melbourne full forward, who has been with the Swans since 2002, will be interviewed once Sydney's season ends. (Link.)

I have full faith in his professionalism that he'll commit himself 100% to the task at hand until after the end of our season (I was going to say 'grand final day' but then realised I was being dangerously presumptuous).

Sure, we'd like him to stay. But you can't deny someone the chance to prove themselves at the top level. Today's fun fact: John Longmire, at 35, is the same age as Robert Harvey! Seems improbable b/c he's been retired so long.

IMO John Longmire has been struck off the list for Saints coaching job,i think they have bigger fish to fry. They dont want an assistant coach as there head coach, the people they are after are IMO Chocco Williams,Bomber Thompson,Lealthy Leigh people of that nature.I think they will try to lure a ready made senior coach, look what happend with GT he was a virgin senior coach.
