An inquiry into the state of Barassi's stubble is obviously called for.
It's nice that Victorians are belatedly waking up to what non-Victorians have been saying for years.
It strikes me that the solution to the problem lies right under their noses. There's nothing forcing Victorian teams to be part of a national competition. Nothing at all. Those people who think that playing against interstate teams in a national competition has been a bad idea, and would prefer to be in a Victorian-dominated comp, should lobby their clubs to join an existing Victorian state-based competition (or form a new one, if they don't like the array currently on offer). It'd be a much better, purer experience for them than having to constantly deal with their team playing in funny places where you can't even drive to see the game, against opponents who only win because the AFL cheats for them.
They would be happy. We would be happy. The remaining Victorian teams who want to play in a national competition would be happy. Problem solved!
On the radio Jeff Kennett suggested that Carlton, Melbourne, Kangaroos, and Western Bulldogs should be the ones to relocate. Although I think that may be a smoke screen with the already renamed "Tassie hawks".
Thanks for going to the trouble swantastic, but I meant another article that talked about the Vic clubs' failure to make the most of the draft system. The journo's name is Damian Barrett.

He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Originally posted by anniswan Biggest thing that the Vic teams has is crap coaches. Still stuck in the olden days of the VFL.
On reading the article about Roos today he is the most progressive coach in the league.
Sheedy, Pagan, Laidley, Thompson, Clarkson etc, who of them have said that their is life after footy, footy is their life and they have nothing outside it.
Fairly true but why hasn't Collywobbles done better under Malthouse since he did well 'interstate'?
I've an idea about Melburnians having finals every week there - have a local comp called the VFL, in addition to the national AFL comp.
I'm sure the Victorian fathers (mothers?) of the AFL didn't think the top four could ever be made-up of only interstaters.

You may have a point there, Annie. But Roosy has already said he doesn't want to become a "career coach" - so we've gotta be careful with his successor. And as for some of the above, you'd have to say it's time to move on....

The reason is simple and it is not going to change. Non-Victorian clubs play more 'home' ground advantage than Victoria clubs because when victorian clubs play each other, at Telstra Dome or MCG, it is effectively neutral territory. Therefore, there is a more even spread of wins and loses in games between Victorian sides. Better to have a clear cut advantage in 11 games a season and have to win four 'away' out of 11 games at a disadantage than it is to have no advantage for 10 games (i.e. against other Melbourne teams), a disadvantage for six games (i.e. when playing 'interestate' and an advantage in six games (i.e. when 'interestaters' play in Melbourne)
The cause is the larger numbers of clubs in Vic. If there were three or four clubs in Melbourne only it would not be such a factor. As it stands, the diluation of home ground advantage across Melbourne clubs is enough to make the difference between top 4 and top 8. If you don't make top 8 - no premiership. Therefore, Victorian clubs are at a disadvantage.
Throw in a few home games played interestate that Melbourne clubs choose to sell and the problem is compounded.
He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.
Very valid point L.A.
I recently read an article (the Age - paper copy), that identified three key points where the author felt non-Vic clubs had an advantage:
1. Home ground advantage.
2. 'Cashed-up' with large memberships.
3. Access to local leagues to identify local talent.
Probably right for most cases, however the Swans would really only benefit from point 1.

Do you reckon the extra travel involved for the non-Vic teams negates some of the home game advantage?
Originally posted by Piobaireachd couldn't agree more. but move the GF to a venue other than the MCG is ludicrous. One day it may happen but not until there is a venue that can hold as many if not more.
NEVER!!!!!
The game was invented and first played in the MCG carpark. It (the GF) should remain there FOREVER.

And the Vics play away games @ home (vs other Vics). So much less travel therefore less weary etc.
