This is shocking!! Two weeks would still seem a fair buffer period though so it sounds like a bit of a beat-up, but fingers crossed it doesn't arrive until next week, or at least decides to come early this week!!

There was actually TV coverage of this about 4-5 weeks ago (perhaps on Seriously AFL or something along those lines) and whilst he said he wasn't sure, she was pretty adamant that she wouldn't let him miss the Grand Final.

I think we'll be right, they always look for the big hype stories, this is just one of them.

And according to a story in the Sun-Herald, Brett Kirk's wife "is about to have twins" - doesn't say when they're due though.

          I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

Why in the hell couldn't he keep it in his pants for another 2mths?

I'm sorry, but if you are getting paid to be the No. 1 ruckman then you front up - baby or not.

Maybe > than going as a spectator. Not > than a Grand Final. If he misses he will be letting down the whole team.

If they can't count backwards 9 mths then bad luck.

                      Sorry.
It's a lot of guilt for a child to bear: "oh you're Shania Jolly - the kid that cost the Swans a chance of back-to back flags".

Then again, this is the Swans so look for the media spin.

If I was him I would miss the GF. Family comes first.

I hope he plays though, we are screwed if he doesn't.

Oh well, guess he could miss the parade then, but not the GF!!
I'm with you - it was said that she was going to have a C-section anyway - surely they can have a scheduled one for just after training on Wednesday he can have the evening with the wife and child - go home get some sleep, and see her before the flight to Melbourne. God a friend of mine had her baby last night 5 weeks early (C-section too) and the baby shower was supposed to be today - so these things can be done - and I'm sure they would be in a health fund, so a nice private hospital suite will be arranged! Geez all it takes is a little sensible planning
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

Don't think it will affect the kid if he is not there. At the end of the day it wont affect his wife much either - let's face it plenty of women have got through it by themselves and there gets a certain stage in the process when she's not really concerned who is in the room or not. So the only one really 'missing out' is him - he is putting himself before the team saying that he would rather be at the birth than at the game.

also - if they are smart most scheduled c-sections are done on Tuesdays and Fridays ( I have just been told that ) - so if they are that concerned, then pay the doctor a visit - and see if he can fit it in on say Tuesday - far more convenient for us (and we pay his wages!!!)

Not really. It's not like he is hurting his kid if he is not there. He is a professional and this is what he gets paid $300k+ a year.

Can you think of any other job with a likewise salary that an employee would be allowed to miss the most important few days of a year?! Sure if it was a more flexible time, sure. But this is not on.
