Can you think of any other job with a likewise salary that an employee would be allowed to miss the most important few days of a year?! Sure if it was a more flexible time, sure. But this is not on.
Especially when he has the following 6 weeks off to spend with mum and bub.

FFS. Last year it was the Hall drama now its Jolly. We supposed to enjoy this week not worry about things like this.

I know family is of the upmost importance but there are other considerations here. Jolly must remember he would not have a well paid career if it wasn't for the fans. The very people he will be letting down if he decides not to play.
..And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. They have overcome the highly fancied Hawks in brilliant style. Sydney the 2012 Premiers - Gerard Whately ABC

oh my god..I just got out of bed and read this.what tha...

sorry as a woman, I would let my hubby play...and then meet me at the hospital after. I understand the importance to the him, the team, the fans and the history of the game. any other game of the year I would say he has to be by his wifes side but not this one....

the child will grow up asking why he missed that game the swans lost....and what will he say!

Honestly, don't get caught up in it...reeeeeeeelax...what can we do...nothing!!

If it comes early, it comes early and it is out of our control. Jolly is definitely an asset but we can still win without him if worse case scenario proves correct.

Was it last year's gf or some other big final previous that Leo Barry's baby was due but did not eventuate?

This is like getting married in footy season. It's bound to mess somerthing up.

Isn't that the reason they invented handycams.

All that blood, guts and screaming when my children were born, and that was just me!

Too stressful. Us males were not biologically designed to cope with such stress.

I think an obvious solution is to bring her to the game and have the baby delivered in the MCG changerooms. Jolly can interchange every now or then to check on how things are going.

All the family lives in Melbourne anyway. Trip down on the train and problem solved.

Paul Chambers must be feeling a bit of a goose now. Walked too early.

Or another alternative, webcams... you can broadcast it onto those tellies at the MCG, then Jolly can see it whilst hes playing or on the bench.

i rather play than stay on her beside. the screams... the view.. err.. unbearable

Bloody hell... As has been said - COUNT NINE MONTHS!!! I'll never understand people who get married during footy season, even worse FINALS, and those who make the babies over the X-mas/New Year period! It leads to problems like this!

From a female perspective, I'd demand he play, and probably be sitting at the G with my legs very tightly crossed for the game... Although thinking about it, if bub was late, a game like last year's would be a great inducing technique....

                            Nicole Linvingston seemed to agree

Can't believe an issue like this has come up in GF week.

And someone should clobber the media relations staff at the Swans for letting it become an issue

I know how he feels. I had my 2nd grade darts final on the night my first was due. I played of course. We lost. Baby born 2 weeks over.
