I need to pick you up there Annie.

If there was a second team they would be based in western Sydney (I am not talking about the latte sipping inner west either ) for no other reason that that is where the population is. There is a million or more people living in the region known as western Sydney. Sure there are some Swans fans out there but the kiddies playing AFL would soon switch if they had a local team to follow.

The stadium is already built - it's called Telstra Stadium.

I can't see it happening anytime soon though.

Last time I checked the map, Telstra Stadium was at Homebush Bay ... still more or less considered the "inner west".

When the AFL are talking "western Sydney", they're talking about suburbs between Parramatta to Penrith, Liverpool and Windsor and all the suburbs in-between (the actual west, north-west and south-west). These places are still 1/2 an hour to 45 minutes from Homebush Bay ... even by train.

Telstra Stadium is not a stadium for the "west" as "they" like you to think. Telstra Stadium is a stadium that is about as far "west" as the people in the eastern suburbs dare to go.

          You know it makes sense.

The inner west stops just past Leichhardt, people who make it go further are the same as those who say Chatswood is in the lower north shore or Epping is on the north shore just to try and make themselves feel better. Plus it seems to me that there is a huge amount of people who travel further west after Swans games at Homebush - I think it could work there fine.

The Parramatta Power in the NSL proved you CAN NOT match an established club from a different code with a new club (due to their connection with the Eels).

A BRAND NEW second team is needed in Sydney. If the AFL relocates another team then that will not work. Sydney needs a 100% new Sydney AFL team. Going to Melbourne for the grand final and having people from Melbourne barracking for a Sydney team... its just soo soo wrong. Everyone in Melbourne should HATE HATE HATE the Sydney team (see Sydney FC v Melbourne Victory for details). A brand new Sydney team could become bigger than the Swans.

The Blacktown Stadium will have a capacity of around 20,000 I believe - quite adequate for a start-up (or re-located) team with presumably low enough overheads to be profitable

If there is to be a second team in Sydney, it really can't be a relocated team this time. It has to be a Western Sydney team, and it has to be one that can not be questioned as not being a true "Western Sydney" club.

Going to be a relatively hard sell for the first few years I would imagine, near impossible if people think of it as a Melbourne club.

The "Two Cities - One Team" concept finally works for the Swans these days, but it took a lot of time.

It is hard to balance a move like ours and grow a supporter base where you need to grow it and keep your 'old' hardcore happy, because a lot of Sydney born and bred fans would go for Sydney anyway, no matter what the heritage, while fans like me from families of South supporters would have gone for them if they had located anywhere.

A new club in Sydney has to work hard to win over Western Sydney, not have to worry about pleasing fans back in Melbourne.

Hope we do get a new club up here in the next 10/15 years though and build one hell of a rivalry.

Well you should since they moved away from YOU, the Melbourne fans.

I guess you are one of those pathetic people yelling "go Souths" at the Grand Final(s)?

But thats not what I mean, I am specifically talking about a "generic Sydney" team that does not exist which should be the brunt of much vitriol from all people in Melbourne, its a shame for the sport it does not happen and it won't happen in the future if they be lazy and just relocate North or Footscray to Sydney.
