Originally posted by Matt79 I'm sorry for disagreeing, however, life is bigger than footy, no matter the $$$$ involved and I cannot blame him for putting family first.
I think Redunderthebed's comments were that he is paid to do a job and although he physically turned up on the day he didn't turn up mentally.
As someone else said in another thread you don't see the defence force personnel failing in their duties because their partner is having a baby.
He wasn't Robinson Crusoe in the playing a poor game stakes, unfortunately.
Originally posted by Casey36 Well, the main thing is that he did turn up for the Grand Final so who cares what he did say. Obviously if he hadn't turned up on the account of his first child well then i think everyone has a reason to be p*ssed off. I think blaming Jolly for our loss is a little harsh, maybe he contributed to the loss but didnt cause it. And that "boring pussy" in my opinion is 'one' of the best things that's happened to the swans.
If this was his worst game statistically, then he shouldn't have turned up at all. See the irony?
Captain, I am detecting large quantities of win in this sector
the guy would be gutted, hes been a great ruckman. He played a god awful game, but who says its because of the baby stuff, like someone said hall didnt have a baby during the week.
The fellas busted their guts all year to get there and they would be hurting, give em a break
Or maybe he didn't realise that she was going to give birth early!
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.
"[T]here are things that matter more and he's reading and thinking about them: heaven, reincarnation. Life and death are the only things that are truly a matter of life and death. Not football."
Actually, I don't really blame anyone on the Swans team for losing, I blame the West Coast Eagles for scoring more points than us! If only one of them missed...
My Pokemon brings all the boys to the yard and they're like "Wanna trade cards?"
"Damn right, I wanna trade cards. I can beat you, I've got Charizard!"
redunderthebed, I think you're being a bit harsh on Jolly. To single out that one non-event as costing us the grand final is clearly a ludicrous suggestion.
When you're talking about a one-point game, of course you can look at any single thing as being the difference - however I don't think Jolly is any more to blame than Hall or any of the other players who were almost universally down a few percent on their normal intensity.
He is well paid to do a job, I'll agree. However, I don't see anything he has done as being unreasonable. They said that they'd do anything they could to accomodate the game, and they did. However, if push came to shove, and he HAD to pick one or the other, I wouldn't have been surprised if he'd missed the game. You do what you can, but if you were asked to choose between your family and work, hell, even I would have walked out as obviously they're not worth a damn to me as an employer.
177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out.... Des' Weblog

He didn't look gutted on the 'plane on the way back to Sydney, he looked pleased/excited to be going home. Chatted about the baby to a girl across the aisle from him, before jumping into a BC seat.

How dare he enjoy the birth of his first child! We need to trade him. In fact, I think we should trade the entire team apart from Doyle. He's really tall.
From now on the club should insist on compulsory use of CONDOMS in December and January for all players. If I can do it so can they!
I actually think Jolly played his worse game ever for us on Saturday. Watching the replay last night on Fox I realised that Doyle played better than he did.
I blame bloody Hawthorn for costing us the premiership. If we had Spida playing for us this year, we'd have back to back premierships. Jolly could have stayed home with mother and baby, which I believe is where his head was at on Saturday.
I want Spida playing in the red and white in 2007-08.
Occupational hazards:
I don't eat animals since discovering this ability. I used to. But one day the lamb I was eating came through to me and ever since then I haven't been able to eat meat.

Could it be that Jolly played on a better ruckman. I hear that Cox fella can play a bit
..And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. They have overcome the highly fancied Hawks in brilliant style. Sydney the 2012 Premiers - Gerard Whately ABC
