Mind you, I don't really think Jolly was all the reason we lost. Just a little bit of it.

My work involves 52 weeks of highly skilled, important, close tolerance detail on aircraft systems where hundreds of work colleagues rely on me to perform my duties in strict time frames with complete mental focus so that the company functions without flight delays which will ultimately distress awaiting passengers. The birth of my child did not cause the plane to fall out of the sky.

Fair call. Presumably when you took leave someone else took over and did an acceptable job, as I have not heard of any recent air crashes in Australia.

Oh, and on the Jolly case, he wasn't the reason we lost the game. HOWEVER, it was either stupidity or really bad planning that he was in the situation in the first place. I can understand why you would want to be at the birth of your child and I am sure any workplace would give Joe Bloggs out there on the street the day off to witness this occassion. But, footy ain't just any old profession out there on the street. Whilst it is not like being a prime-minister, or in the army (as was mentioned earlier), you still can't compare this profession to that of a bloke who is just working in an office. The blokes only play 6 months a year, and it all culminates in this one MASSIVE game (ie the Grand Final), so it is very different to mine and most average peoples jobs...you have so many people relying on you...so whilst I can understand Jolly wanting to be there, I am not sure I would have supported a decision for him not to play should he have been forced to make the choice...

I mean, you can focus on what you want, and I can tell you how silly it is.



But I just think ripping into Jolly for what he and his wife did 9 months ago is a little bit irrelevant, especially considering he played the game. Sure, say he had a bad game against one of the best ruckmen in the league, but don't go on and on and on and on about his new baby and how it ruined everything, when it clearly didn't!

I don't think it's crucifixion to ask if the system worked. I mean we're talking about human being here, not hamsters. There was a period of say at least 7 months where Jolly and presumibly Roosy know that Jolly was going to have a baby around GF time.

When he was sitting on the pine enjoying some oranges at halftime was he thinking:

a) Geez, I'm playing like a tool. I'm really letting my teammates down and If I don't pick it up we're going to lose this.

or

b) The miracle of life ....the wonder of it all....beautiful child....what am I doing here...I should be with you

Jolly knew his wife's family has a hisotry of giviing birth early...it's not like he thought 2 weeks before - "If this baby is born I'm not playing"....should he have been there in the first place?

1. Putting your kids birth at the top of your list shouldn't get you booted from a team.

2. I'm sure he was on the bench thinking both of those things.

3. He didn't miss the game, and it was pretty unlikely that he would have missed it. Certainly less likely than us kicking straighter and winning the game.

Well Mike, I am not suggesting it ruined everything. In fact, if you read my post (the bits where I was being serious) I said it was one of a small number of things that went against us in a close contest where a lot of things had to go right for us to win.

My wife has given birth twice and have two more on the way, so I can speak with authority about how much it really messes with Dad mentally and physically (Mum doesn't come out too well either). I think I opined in a post before the game that it Jolly was going to have a long day. It was very predictable outcome.

Anyway, the point is this. Unlike all the other so whats, what ifs and maybes, this one thing was completely avoidable. Did it cost us a point? Don't know.

By the way, I chuckle heartily at those who refer to the royal 'we'.

It's a pretty big assumption that Jolly had a bad game becuase of the new bub. There's a big list of players who had dodgy games, and none of them had new bubs.
