IMHO ... there's a fine line between being very passionate and wants to keep the faithful happy and involved in the club, and being a show pony. Some days the boy just steps over the line. I believe he was under a gag order at the post-GF "celebrations" this year. He was told not to get onto or near a microphone, yet he went ahead and did so. Sheesh, if the CAPTAIN can't take orders .....???????

Davo got into lotsa trouble for something like that didn't he??

Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

      Concur....

Don't think it's about modesty or ego...

I think it's more that Kirky is the type of player that wears his heart on his sleeve. He loves his team and his team mates and isn't afraid to show it!

But yes, agree with comments re Maxfield, How can we make sure he is recognised?? We managed to get Roos onto the coaching position with public opinion so why can't we ensure the same sort of ground swell of support for Stuey??

I don't see anything wrong with a little light hearted fun, especially after losing a GF, that's when we all need to laugh and feel proud also. I can't imagine him being punished for it.

          I agree with this.
Kirk never had/ will never have the footy skills Paul Kelly did.

Too bloody right. Remember his efforts in pushing a small child out of the way on the GF podium last year to be the first to scream about the bloods.

What now????? We can't refer to drugs, cursing and the other fun things in life. Really, is this kumbaya online?

on the 'plus' side, we are now free to talk about the canon and blt.

                Wonderful stuff.

Did I actually read on here someone else refer to Amon as "the canon"?

it wasn't really about footy skills rather the leadership and inspirational stuff on and off the ground

In that case, Kirk will never be a better leader or more inspriational one than Kels was. Goodsey is still a better bet for me.

Then again guys, it's a very different era now at the club.

It's hard to compare apples with oranges.

I admire Goodes a lot but I've never seen him do the impassioned speech to the troops - to which they responded - as Kirk has. Goodes is more contained - Kirk shows his love of the Swans and his fellow players more opening than just about anyone in AFL. And Kirk's efforts to get us over the line in the second half of this year's Grand Final was inspirational, and the whole team lifted around him. I don't think he makes out he is the spiritual leader of the Bloods - the rest of the team just seem to accept that he is.

I think few thought that he was just going through the motions with his "this one's for the Bloods!" cry last year - or his excellent losers speech this year (cf Hird in 2001).

Do you have some knowledge that he was meant to be muzzled after this year's Grand Final - or are you just running an agenda?

And just to be nitpicking, I think Kirk knows Davis better than any poster here. Nick has acknowledged that he was stung enough by Kirk's "you owe us one" to get us over the line in the semi and on our way to a flag last year. This year Kirk, I believe, was the leader who worked through a lot of the issues with Nick while he was out of the team and now Nick says he wants to be a member of the group long term. That sounds like Kirk is a leader who knows how to get results from his team.

IMO Kirky and Kells are the most insprational players i have seen at the Swans for 35 years.I couldnt say which one more than the other i prefered too hard to make a choice.IMO they are of equal billing.
Now this is a thread that i would expect on the ego -centric, wank session that is redandwhiteonline.com...

                          Here here....

And as for Goodesy, I think he's probably a better player (skills, ability, talent, etc), But he's not the leader of these two..... well not yet he isn't.

Sorry to disagree swantastic, but I reckon Ricky Quade was more inspirational that Kirk and just a shade behind Kelly.

Ricky Quade...Ricky Quade...Ricky Quade...sure you didn't type in the wrong name? Not a bad player for a while...but inspirational... rarely if ever.
Healy, Round, Williams, Lockett, Hall, MOL would all be in a different "inspirational" league to Quade. I'm just not sure where you are coming from.

I have no idea what you're talking about.
Kirk is a magnificent player, not because of natural talent such as Judd's or Kerr's, but for making the absolute most of what he has been given. And as someone already pointed out, the word is he was the one who made a point of encouraging Nick during his time on the outer and was among the first to make sure he knew he was back in the group.
Legend status? Definitely. Up with Kelly? Time will tell, but I am expecting it.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)
