I wouldn't take that quote too seriously, it was a silly comment to make, it would have been a lot better to read "We have an obligation to the club as a whole to win as many premierships as possible" as opposed to what was published, which nominated who it was important to win premierships for.

To be honest, I don't give a rats who plays for us on Grand Final day, if they wear red and white and win a premiership, I'll be pretty happy with them.

It's an unbelievably stupid comment by Roos.
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

"[T]here are things that matter more and he's reading and thinking about them: heaven, reincarnation. Life and death are the only things that are truly a matter of life and death. Not football."

It's the third time in around a month he has singled them out.

I agree but if Barry, Kirk or Hall are not up to it at finals time, Roos seems to be saying that fielding the best team is not as important as the obligation to these three players:

"I want to give Kirky, Barry Hall and Leo Barry the opportunity to be able to play (more finals) again while they are at the footy club," Roos said.

It's slightly alarming considering that an injured player could well miss easy shots on goal in a close Grand Final.

Why would he/the club have more of an obligation for Hall or Barry or Kirk than say for MOL, Crouch, J Bolton, Goodes, or Fosdike?

I blame those knuckleheaded fans (including some on here) who demanded we sign Roos as coach at any cost as it played to his messiah complex.

Only a deeply vain man would walk out the front of the club to say hello to 20 deranged fans holding up signs demanding his appointment and thinking their little demo would push a professional organisation to do as they wanted.

The people around here slandering Roos' name should really be ashamed, what he's done for this club since he took over is immeasurable, you're a disgrace to the rest of us loyal and APPRECIATIVE fans.

Is it just me or is it that a few people on this site seem to think that Roos should consult a therapist before making any further comments about the team he coaches for fear that some may read between the lines in every single quote to push their own agenda.

                  Grow up people.

Who on here thinks that the overall message that Roos is communicating at present is not the right course of action?

Irrespective of who the players are that are named, we have an opportunity to win premierships in the next 2 to 3 years and that is all that matters.

People's comments are always open for interpretation when only seen in written form. Like email, you cannot tell the tone or manner in which something is said...anyhoo

IMO I did not read much into Roos' comments and to a certain degree they made sense. I don't think he is going to list every player 'near' the end of their career in his comment.

Also, perhaps he could have articulated himself better and simply said, "I believe we have a squad who are geninuenly close to another premiership and I want to give them the best chance possible to succeed before we lose some of our experieced players to retirement."

However, for me it boils down to look how far our team and club has come, a premiership in line and backed up with in 2006 consistent success. I am a proud Swannies member and very pleased with how Roosey has coached the side.

And if singling out the club captain isn't elitist I don't know what is! Typically bloody Sydney everyone loves winner attitude.

And he didn't even mention that he was sorry he never got to coach the team when Kel was playing so he could get him a Premiership. And he was a dead set legend.

Sack him and get Sheeds I say - he doesn't mind getting stuck into his captain.

i've got to pin something negative on roos to validate myself soon
                        <\blah blah blah>

it's no surprise that roos thinks of his captains as representative of his senior players and the playing group as a whole. i'll agree the way he's put it is a little clumsy but there is nothing in his statement to suggest that he feels any of the other players are less worthy.
then again, i think it would be worth trying 15-16 players on field so what would i know

                          Agree.

In regard to the "obsession" theme of this thread though, it amuses me how a small core of posters appear obsessed with every utterance that comes from Roos mouth. Every phrase is disected, every word analysed. Will our kids be studying Shakespeare, Keats and Roos in years to come ?

Class, please discuss the merits of excluding O'Loughlin from the list of those owed another permiership. Roos Chapter 157 Verse 18. Did the snub drive O'Loughlin to become triple Norm Smith medallist from 2008-2010 ? Minimum 10,000 words please.

The bizarre triple-captaincy is a symptom of his obligation, not the cause.

The real humour comes from the apologists. No matter how many times Roos presents himself poorly the apologists are here in droves, saying that we ought not to take Roos too seriously, that what he said is not what he meant, that even if he is a tool who cares because the club is going well.
