Whether intentional or not, by singling out his 3 mates as the reason for the Spida trade, Roos is downplaying the importance of Goodes, Crouch, Mathews, MOL, Fosdike, J Bolton, C Bolton, McVeigh, Ablett, Keneally, LRT, Buchanan, Jolly, Dempster, Doyle etc.
At best he was clumsy with his words, at worst he was dismissive of all others at the club except himself and his 3 captains.

... and that's what we're picking apart.
Give us a break. It's the off season and there ain't much else happening in footy this week.

Originally posted by NMWBloods My view is that Buckley is clearly a standout at Collingwood. The three players Roos continually mentions are not.
I think Hall is generally as more valuable than Buckley these days so, by your logic, it would have been better if Roos had singled him out - rather than do the politically correct thing and name all his captains?

So you would have preferred him to say "Yeah I think Jude and Craig and Tadhg and Mickey and Benny and Jared and Jarrad and Brett and Leo and Barry and Amon and Nick and Adam and Adam and Ted and Stephen and Darren and Lewis and Sean and Luke and ..... *insert all names of whole list on here* deserve another premiership?" You have no idea if he was asked specifically about those 3 or if he deliberately singled them out to then make the statement. You have no idea what was said before or after the quoted statement and unless you get your hands on the transcript or initial recording of the interview it's unlikely you ever will.

Players like Buckley, Hird and Voss are occasionally singled out by their coaches because they have been at their clubs for a long period of time, are recognised as standout captains, are recognised as standout players in their club (eg: Brownlow medals), and they are just a single player.
Once you start naming more than a single player and when there are longer-serving players in the club and when you do it too often, then you start getting into some trouble IMO.
I think it would have been better to say he owed it to the 'senior players' to give them another shot.
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.
"[T]here are things that matter more and he's reading and thinking about them: heaven, reincarnation. Life and death are the only things that are truly a matter of life and death. Not football."
Originally posted by Annie Haddad As far as I'm concerned, not making Goodsey the captain for 2007 (the ONLY dual brownlow medalist not to be captain of ANY team) makes Roosey (and therefore the rest of the club) the laughing stock of the competition. IN MY OPINION (before you all jump down my throat for DARING to have one).
IMO, that's the first error in judgement Roosey's made that I have most concern with.
So, by that line of thinking, if Aker had picked up a second Brownlow, Leigh would have made the Lions a laughing stock if he hadn't dumped Voss to appoint Aker captain?

Gee, how about "the current team" or "the current playing group"?

We have a bit of an idea since similar statements have been reported multiple times by different journalists in different papers.
