I just have a problem with narrow minded people like Damien that think 2 hours is a lifetime away... and because Launceston isn't Hobart it must be boganville!

damn... its the same freakin state!!!!! get over it Damien the footy will always be up north and the Cricket will be down south!

Annie, Thanks but I'm too old for a gold star... And I promise I wont give Damien a belting!
Another Northerner who can't see the northern 'cities' for what they are!!!

Hobart is the closest thing to a city Tasmania has, all major businesses run their head offices through Hobart (Including Launceston?s pride and Joy, Boags), Parliament is in Hobart and the biggest population resides in Hobart.

Yet no matter what, you can always rely on Northerners to be over the top parochial and believe it is a right that Launceston or one of the North West cities have the same access to major events as Hobart.

AFL was awarded to York Park because of Bass being a swing seat. At the time, the Federal Government provided two equal grants to Bellerive and York Park; however the State Government signed the games to York Park, which continued to get funding above this amount because of the AFL.

A little research wouldn't hurt you either.

As for calling me a moron for having an opinion on Tasmania's minor cities. I promise not to 'give you a belting'

I do enjoy my view of Launceston on my flights back home to Sydney from Hobart at Christmas.

You do have wonderful debating skills.

I think I can be self appointed judge on this. I've lived in both Hobart and Launceston for about equal time - and there is no contest. Launceston is a hole. Hobart leaves it for dead. Northerners are full of self interest and jealousy of the south. And it has got in the way of the state's development in so many areas. The place needs a decent government who can stand up and say "Hobart is the capital and that's it".

And no, Sydney/Eastern Suburbs is nothing like it. This is a real rivalry, but having said that most of the aggro is from the north directed at the south. You northerners, get over it, Hobart should be the natural centre of everything in Tas.

It is an historical accident that Hobart is the capital of Tasmania. If it wasn't for some wierd phobia of the French back in the early 1800's any planning agency would be able to tell you that Hobart is an illogical place for the capital. (Economically as in transport, logistically, climatically)

Having lived all over the island the best place would be on the East Coast. Not now of course but if you had to start from scratch again.

I followed my ex-hausband all over as he tried to climb the greasy pole(Cape Barren, Wilmot, Avoca,Campbell Town, St.Marys, St.Helens, Bicheno,Binalong Bay,Ulverstone). I grew up in Launceston, went to Uni and worked in Hobart. They are all beautiful. But I am mighty glad that the AFL games are played at York Park.

As to my views about Cressa coaching............

St Helens is a funny place Satchmo.

Long story, but moored at jetty there. St Helens has a tricky sandbar which we tackled ok. Tying up boat, local comes over trying to show us how it was done. Just grinned to ourselves and carried on, nice fellow

Local; "where are you from then, America? "

                        Layby; "No, no, Sydney"

                        Local; "ahh same thing"

                        All foreigners i guess !!!

I also lived in a tiny Village on the East Coast called Falmouth. There's a bloke there whose nickname is Moscow. He has lived there all his life and hardly ever gone further than St.Mary's or Scamander about 20 kms inland or along the coast. Out of the blue he took off and went to the Moscow Olympics. If you are going to meet strangers you might as well do a good job of it.

Ties in well with that St.Helens story.

No - Tassie has some shockers, like the rest of Australia! But there are some really beautiful areas too.
