If you are suggesting that didn't play there...or was @@@@e when he did, then fair enough.
Rowe started in the backline and was relief ruck when Ericksen was out.

But it was only in the 2nd half where he really impressed me when he was moved as a full forward. He uses his body (still slight but will fill out) and is just generally smart around goals.

Let's hope he can continue his improvement next year as a forward.

Rowe played CHB in the ressies GF and was BOG in the eyes of the Swans match committee.

He played on the Captain/Coach of Belconnen, Steve Maher, a five time B&F winner and eight times ACT Rep player, beating him pointless.

I was just looking through our national draft efforts of the past seven years, and it's not too bad. Overall we've made pretty good use of our draft picks - only one real 'failure' - Willoughby (and possibly Powell as well).

        1999

        11 - J Ball (trade)

21 - Scott Stevens (swapped pick for Stefan Carey, Stevens later traded for picks in 2003 to pick up Schmidt and repick Buchanan)

        26 - Doyle

        34 - Schauble (trade)

        41 - J Ball (trade)

        56 - O'Keefe

        2000

        8 ? P Williams (trade)

        24 ? Ablett

        39 ? P Williams (trade)

52 ? Buchanan (swapped pick for Dwayne Simpson)

        54 ? Sundqvist

        2001

        13 ? Hall (trade)

        17 - Hall (trade)

28 ? Powell (swapped pick for Ryan Fitzgerald)

        29 ? LRT

        53 - Hunt

        54 - Hall (trade)

        60 ? Schneider

        74 - Mott

        2002

        5 ? McVeigh

        21 ? N Davis (trade)

        50 ? Thewlis

        64 ? Malceski

        2003

        16 - Willoughby

29 - Schmidt (swapped pick for Scott Stevens)

45 ? Buchanan (swapped pick for Scott Stevens)

        47 ? Eriksen

        59 ? M Davis

        2004

        15 ? Jolly (trade)

        31 ? Moore

        47 ? Spriggs

        61 ? James

        2005

        19 ? Richards (trade)

        35 - Chambers (trade)

          Simon,

There were a number of people who gave phantom drafts on Big Footy. While it is clear Weaver is a student of the Draft and players I reckon a few of the others who posted were pretty astute also. Opinions seem to vary on players particularly outside the top 10.

Take Houli for instance, there was a very wide variance of opinions from a "gun" to wrong body shape and untidy.

Weaver also cops a bake from a few as not a good judge. I think Barham has proved himself a good judge with few critics on his results.

On Faulks he got a couple of good wraps and one said (was it Sheehan) that he was quick off the mark, reads the play, is able to run shoulder to shoulder with leading forwards and always gets his hand into a contest. Someone also said he is rarely beaten.

Sounds like a genuine full back to me. Was Silvagni an outstanding mark?

All up, at this stage no one is able to say whether we got it right or not.

All you can do is look at recent history, and as NMW has posted our previous stratergies of trading and drafting for certain sports has worked well in the past.

Outside of the top 3 or 5, it is a lottery. You can win some and you can lose some.

Mcveigh is our only player we've drafted in the top 20 for the last 7 years

                And Willoughby.

We had three in the top 10 in 1998!

However the list NMW posted also shows why we are in the state we are regarding KP players.

                  Ball.
                  Schuable.
                  Hall.
                  Jolly.
                  Richards.
                  Chambers.

All traded in to fill KP or ruck.

Scott Stevens and Ryan Fitzgerald both traded away to the Crows.

LRT, Mott, James and Erikson drafted - Only one still on the list.

If it wern't for the extraordinary capabilities of Leo Barry and Michael O'Loughlin to fill FB/FF when they are really midfielder/flanker height... we would be in the @@@@ right now.
