I never suggested he should be in the side purely because he is Sydney born and bred. He's got to earn his place like most others.
It's super important for the development of Sydney football (and following on from that the sustainability of the Swans) that we have a reasonable amount of local talent in the Swans squad. A lot of youngsters can identify with those that have trodden a similar path.

No - as I recall it was because we picked someone else before him.

We picked Jude Bolton at 7. He was a Saints fan.

Lenny Hayes went at 8. He was a swans fan.

            Great pick!

I didnt check those pick #s mind you.

                MMG stand corrected...

                3/ Nic Fosdike-Norwood
                4/Ryan Fitzgerald-South Adelaide Pffftttt
                8/Jude Bolton-Calder Cannons

                11/ Lenny Hayes-Pennett Hills/ACT Rams

We should have taken Hayes at number 4/3.

We definitely should have picked him ahead of Jude Bolton. Arguably we took Fosdike too high too, but that was probably bit harder to tell and as I recall from that draft there wasn't much else. Fitzgerald was just unlucky.

I stand by the Nic & Jude picks....

And to be honest, even Fitzgerald looked promising on a couple of occassions....

Fitzgerald looked promising when he played against us!

I'm pretty sure he kicked 6!?!

I would have prefered Josh Carr or Des Headland or Mark McVeigh over Fitzgerald but hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Bevan is very frustrating. I recall a game against Carlton of all teams (2003?) when we were playing crap and no-one seemed able to fix it. Then for 10 minutes or so Bevan took the game by the throat and we made it over the line. The bloke can play, but you wouldn't know it from the average input he makes. If he can put in the effort and maintain that kind of impact, we'd be a very happy team.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

I think that was 2004 - kicked a superb goal in the last quarter.

                              Hi post here super seldom

Have noticed the negative Bevan stuff. He is valuable, his efforts in 2004 2005 and a medal mean he is rated by those who count.

We are spoilt a bit by the grind it takes to get a spot and the loyalty Roosey places in those that occupy their spot ... it is harder to get dropped than most sides and it works.

All of them know they have to work very hard to gain a spot.

Bevan is a premiership player and not pretty but we could name a few that aren't or were nnot at his stage.

Give him a go! He deserves it.

                              Cheer Cheers
                              Can't wait!

                                Right on Simon.

He's a dud, but unfortunately he wont be able to confirm it once again because he wont get a game.

Sounded like a whole heap of excuse making claptrap to me. Why on earth would you do an interview with no 38 on the list. He makes Mathews look like a champion/supertsar.

2004!!! thats 3 years ago, how long do we give him to so called prove himself. Purely making up the numbers and will be up for trade at seasons end.

Cant wait to see him star in the pre season comp and get up the hopes of the RWO'ers.
