Yet another Roos bashing thread.....
Roos takes credit for Goodes' Brownlow

I continually shake my head at the constant sniping at Roos from a couple of people on these boards. If we were underachieving or the team was in disharmony I'd understand it. But we're in the middle of a sustained period of success for the club at a time when it's genuinely exciting to be a Swans supporter, esepcially for those of us who were fans when we weren't so flash.
Roos can claim credit for whatever he wants while we continue to perform as we have been. For the record, he has done an outstanding job with Goodes IMO, and I think he does deserve some credit for the way he has brought him along.Comment

Repeat after me - players PLUS coaches PLUS football departments. Collective achievement, and hopefully a system that will persist long after the current coaches and players are gone.Comment

Now this is a thread that i would expect on the ego -centric, wank session that is redandwhiteonline.com...

Goodes has won two Brownlows, playing two very different roles. He would never have played in the ruck if we had a decent ruck division the year he won his first one. The second one was won running through the midfield - absolute genius. Roos also tried him at CHB for half a season with no success at all (but that would have been because of his knees, not because he is a crap CHB). Roos has got more from Goodes than Eade did. Eade got more from Schauble than Roos did. Roos has had a mature and more developed body and mind to play with. That Roos has got plenty from Goodes is a fact, and whether or not anyone would have got anymore is debateable. What is a fact is that Roos never speaks of the success of the club except in the context of having no superstars and in the context of the game plan (and the football department) that he has constructed.Comment

The strangest thing about this is that, as far as I know, Roos never had any contact or experience with this sort of systems-based thinking. Eade, to who Roos was assistant to, favoured a match/opposition-based approach focusing on targetting opponent weaknesses. Roos himself played in a era where team plans hadn't come into vogue. We all know Roos has a lot of links to basketball in both Australia and the US, yet basketball if anything emphasises the opposite because of the small number of players on court at any one time - NBA teams in particular are built around man-managing "superstars" and tailoring the supporting role players to suit, and the NBL seems to be similar (or am I selling the NBL teams short?). Just who or where did Roos pick up his ideas from?Comment

Do you honestly think if egos were allowed to run rampant and do what they wanted then we would have won a flag? If so why don't you follow the weagles? They have everything you crave for in a "team".
Can i honestly ask you why you have a personal dislike for Paul Roos? Why do you dislike the man who engineered this clubs first flag in 72 years? Do you honestly think a media centric coach like Terry Wallace would have done what Roosy did?
If you find Roosy so boring then don't read the Sydney media. I know i don't.Comment

Interesting point about basketball. I know that Roos is someone who worships at the temple of Phil Jackson, who over the years has coached THE superstars of their era; one of Jackson's great strengths was being able to take the underachieving team with the superstar and turn it into a cohesive unit. The Bulls ran a triangle, Jordan was only one of three points.I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment

And why does that get under your skin so much? I don't see it as a problem? Or would you rather a team of individuals? A team like the collingwoods of yesteryear?

Though I do wonder what Roos thinks of how Jackson's first stint at the Lakers ended - maybe that's part of the reason why he seems to lean on retiring from coaching sooner rather than later..?Comment

Roos is the rampant running ego and he has created a system to elevate the individual. I do not hate him, nor do I have a problem with a successful club (as I have pointed out many times). I does not even annoy me that much that the man is an ego-maniac. I just do not think that he is above criticism, not when he esposes so much @@@@ and markets himself as the laid back Mr Nice Guy that he is not. What does annoy me is that he is loathe to praise players (other than to say that they behaved well and did as he said) and that he as very cleverly created an image of himself as "the man who engineered this clubs first flag in 72 years". It is a discredit to the stars of the club and the talent of the playing group.
So you are telling me that your main gripe with a man who I am assuming you have had little or no real contact with is through what he says in the media? As i have already said would you rather a solarium tanned ego centric money hungry "career coach" like Terry Wallace or a man who knows how to nurture a group of middle of the road players into fulfilling their full potential through confidence? I mean if you read or ask any of the playing group they have reveled in the type of culture that Roos has created, including man-child Nick Davis who know has realized how distant he was. I know what I would rather my team to be and that?s not a group of FIGJAMS.
I think for the sake of RWO ROK it?s about time you really let go of this hate you have for the man and start to concentrate on other things. As I said if you want a team of egocentrics then follow the west coast eagles.Comment

So what makes you the expert on Mr Roos? Are you around him 24-7 to make such a harsh judgment on Paul Roos? Or is this merely from reading watered down wish wash articles in the Sydney media? I don't care if he is Mr. Arrogance (which i don't see in any way at all - don't let what happened to a man-child like Nick Davis cloud your opinions on the man) as long as he has nurtured a winning culture based on team ethos rather than individuals.

As I said if you want a team of egocentrics then follow the west coast eagles. You win. I wish Roos had a tan like Wallace, that's the real issue here. Again and again I try to explain myself to morons like yourself, keep patient and polite. You continue to ask me questions and I continue to answer them. You continue to ask if I want a team of "FIGJAMS" and if I do why don't I go follow the eagles etc when that is not the point at all. I am continually asked why I hate Roos and I continually explain that I don't. There is nothing here that suggests that I do. Roos is continually excused because he won the flag (which is exactly the point I am making - he has everyone convinced that he did). He @@@@@@ it last year - the players were down and he was outcoached most of the day - but that was fate. Teams run on teamwork and an important part of the team are the individuals that make it up. They all get treated differently because they bring different things to the club - some are even better players than others. I have an opinion, formed on the way chooses to express himself, and the comments he makes to the media. If you don't like it, stop reading it.
