I think that there is sledging and there is sledging, when it involves children it's going too far. If I heard my son saying something like that I would be very dissapointed in him as a person.

Headland is a parent, and he is obviously is very protective and sensitive, if I as a parent had something like this said to me I would react. yeah maybe he should have ignored it but maybe if the likes of Sellwood says something crude about children it may make you think as a parent what type of person he really is.

I am completely serious. In a court of law, extreme provocation has been grounds for murder charges being thrown out in the past. They now have lawyers in the tribunal, if Headlands lawyers don't use it they are stupid. It may not work, but there is a good chance that it will.

I saw the footage for the first time last night and in a previous post I wondered if Headland had perhaps used a few choice words on Selwood, but after seeing this I reckon that Selwood just thought he would be a smart arse and try and gain an advantage and just went too far. Obviously he hasnt got kids of his own, otherwise I'm sure if the same was said to him he would react in the same fashion as Headland did.

As for this what happens on the field stays on the field - this has just gone way too far. I thought these were grown men - you know adults, what Selwood said was nothing short of vile. And what made me even more disgusted was the smiles on the nearby WC players faces at the time of the incident so they too are just purile idiots. Its time for the powers that be at that club to take a good hard look at themselves because their club culture is in the gutter.

I know that we are taking the moral high ground on this and that our contempt for the Eagles is such that some of us are considering Collingwood & its supporters more likeable, but the fact is that there are things in this life you just shouldn't say - and in this instance Selwood over stepped the mark of common decency.

I don't know what there is left to consider. Eagles are my most hated club by a long way.

I'm with you on that one hammo - I never thought I would say it but my dislike for the Eagles has grown ever so slowly, but the events of the last month or so have put the final nail in the coffin for me.

I totally agree with you Wardy. I have more contempt for WC right now than I have had for any club since Port Adelaide in 1981 (The Grainger incident in the 1981 SANFL GF). WC are making the NRL Bulldogs look like choir boys. And the WC club appears to do little or nothing to control the players. They are a disgrace and the AFL must now take control.

I agree cruiser, I said in the Braun thread that it is interesting to note that it was the AFL not the Illegals that fined him. It appears that the club either cannot or will not attempt to discipline their players. I think the latter. They won't do anything whilst the team is winning games. It is time the AFL stepped in. They are not above the laws of the game.

I said before that this incident has brought the game into disrepute, time for the fat controller to do something that is for the good of the game.

The Illegals are my most hated team by a long way, the contempt that I feel for them would be greater than the sum of my dislike for all other teams in the competition combined.

Excellent post and my thoughts exactly.

And to think Adam Hunter is probably only by 4th or 5th most disliked Eagles' player now...

those of us without kids really have no idea of what our reaction would be, but I'm guessing if it was me and one of my kids was the subject of such statements by an imbecile of Selwoods proportions I wouldnt hesitate to deck him (in a most unladylike fashion too!), it might knock some sense into him.

                          True.

But in Bloods' defence he did make that comment before the entire alleged transcript came to hand.

Now that he's in my Dream Team I get so confused when he's lining up a set shot for goal.

good point. Well it will be interesting to see what WC and the AFL do on this - dont hold your breath though - WC it seems are able to do what ever they damn well like and not be held accountable. I'd prefer their competition points be stripped from them - extreme I know - but god it would be nice!
