A bit disappointing in the 2nd half where I really thought we could have kicked on and put on a percentage booster.

    - Malceski very impressive with his penetrative kicking. His 3 bounce run in the first quarter was a real highlight.
    - Godfrey was yapping off and just annoying Goodes to no end until Goodes snapped. Silly stuff really.
    - Saw Schmidt pull out of a few contests, admittedly one was against the giant Paul Johnson, that didn't impress me.
    - Aaron Davey just did some amazing things tonight, such a pleasure to watch him play.
    - Kicking for goal much improved, they did it with more intent. However it also helps when the miskicks, such as Jolly's go through!

That's how I voted in the TLM.

It's been said before (or at leat hinted at), but the Match Review Panel would be doing Goodes a favour if they gave him one match. He needs to get his shoulder and his head together, and hop back into it afresh in the next couple of weeks. WTF was Roos doing continuing to play a guy in the last quarter who couldn't tackle, couldn't mark overhead and didn't want to take possession... let alone playing him in defence?!

Otherwise, looked pretty good, and because Sydney knew they had Melbourne's measure, they were prepared to roll the dice, open up and attack a bit more. 17 goals with a slippery ball on a wet ground, is worth a bit of respeck. By the way, you could just cut out the waiting time and give Malceski the captaincy now. Moore looks like a real player, and a little fitter than last year to boot.

Melbourne are clearly short of the mark, largely due to injuries, but have some obvious class players in Davey, Rivers, Bruce (who got rolled for most of the night), Pickett (who's short of full fitness), White, Travis Johnston etc, plus a real quality debut for Ricky Petterd. It counts for a fair bit more than beating a reserves side; but anyway at this stage of the year they're not giving out awards for being convincing. Just collect the 4 points, and work on the team structure and style as they go.

Looks like ROK was right about our kicking. Where was he by the way tonight?

Who did you want Roos to put on the ground in Goodes place? NOG? Tiger? Baz on his corked leg? Goodes was there as the best of the walking/hobbling wounded.

It was interesting to see how our game style copes when we don't have an interchange bench. A lot of players (Schneider, etc) were looking completely exhausted at the end. I was hoping for a percentage boost too but there was a lot of courage shown to hold on through the injuries tonight. Kirk - how tough and fit is this bloke? Our hero tonight.

I thought the Des played better than expected until I learned that most of their first choice midfield played tonight - it's just at both ends that they are very light on at present. And yes, Davey is a pleasure to watch. But good to see Crouch playing better - and maybe getting back to his blistering speed of the past.

I know I should be pleased with a win, a 49 point one at that, but apart from the 1st quarter that really was a dour and unsatisfying game of football. We should have gone on and buried them with a huge and handy percentage boosting score. Time after time we were slow and indecisive (hence al the holding the ball decisions that deservedly went against us), seemingly lacking the confidence to go straight down the middle rather than fart arsing down the wings and across from one boundary to the other, targetting forwards in the pockets or Bazza with 2 or 3 defenders on him.

You absolute genius. You must be the only person on the planet that doesn't know that half the ground is under repair (G.U.R).

I like Legs summation. Schmidts clean hands tonight were nice to watch.
Goodes won't go for a week surely? Even if it was reportable, wont make the points and he as a clean record. Clearly doesn't look right tho.
Bruce did exactly the same thing to McVeigh in the last Q. Difference was the camera angle.

Bit hard on Schmidt. I noticed one where he didn't go on with it when an oppostion player had his head over the footy. That's not pulling out in the terms of the rules these days. There will plenty more of those incidents in the future with most players. Only the dummies will belt a bloke in the head from now on when over the ball.

36% is well and above the average. Hope the midfielders will put it to good use.

I think people underestimate how hard the game was against Adelaide last week. The ground also was difficult to play with many players on both sides reluctant to turn sharply at times because of the poor surface.

Ted Richards looked knackered from the first bounce.
                                Malceski is a star.
Nick Davis ran out of petrol tickets, but boy he looked really sharp for a half, he is the difference in our forward line.
                                Thought Jolly was OK.
                                Schneider found form.
Thought Moore and Schmidt looked at home in the 1's and liked how they lifted in the last Q when some of the more seasoned seniors were feeling the pinch.
Craig Bolton looks like he is carrying an injury. Just coasted last night.
                                Leo played well.
                                Mathews did alright on Johnstone.
Crouch - someone said he played well. Disagree, he was poor and is only getting a game because of who he is. Looked slow and lacklustre. 12 possessions, 6 in last Q junk time on his own and played 95% of the game. Did no chasing.
