Goodes to contest charge/free to play(merged threads)

But his suspension will not be extended by a guilty verdict.

Good news. It implies that his shoulder is ok to play this week. I mean why contest a 1 week suspension if you are going to miss anyway?

Something I got via email (from the club) indicated that they are going to challenge the classification of charging rather than striking - which OTC signalled as a potential "defence" yesterday.

What are the implications for having the charge changed from charging to striking?

Not necessarily. His shoulder may not be OK, even if he does play.

Potential of winning a 3rd Brownlow. (Althought he'd want to start seeing the sherrin a bit more)

The base points are lower even with the same classifications of intentional / low impact / body contact.

Applying the good behaviour discount and the early plea discount (which still applies if it is a different charge to which a player pleads guilty) will bring the residual points below 100 and mean he is able to play this weekend.

If the above scenario eventuates, he will be ineligible for the Brownlow this year. I believe it is the base points before applying applicable discounts that have to be below 100 points for a player to remain eligible.

I think another Brownlow this season is far from anyone's thoughts, given his form (even though he didn't have any points by this stage of last season). He's still got five or six years left in his career to win his third and fourth somewhere down the line.

So it looks like Goodes is out of Brownlow contention. Who in the Swans is likely to be next in line for votes this year? It was Jude leading two years ago wasn't it?

I am hoping for us to be nowhere near in the Brownlow voting this year - heaps of players polling in low teens and us in the Grand Final is all I want this Brownlow night!!!

Currently, I'd say Hall, Tadhg, Bolton and possibly Malceski would have a few votes by now, (and Everitt against the tiges)

The Captain could possibly have a few votes- arguably BOG against the Dees (though maybe not as eye-catching as Malceski) and undoubtedly the best against the Eagles (which could get him a vote).

Surely ROK for the game agst Crows would have got at least 1 possible 2 on the night?

When our one eye-catching superstar (Goodes) isn't in top form, Sydney is far too even a side for any one player to have a realistic chance of winning the Brownlow. Jude Bolton always gets a few, Fossie will probably get a few, in 2007 Malceski will get a bit of attention, the odd one or two to Bucky, NOG polled in a couple of games in 2006 (including one 3-voter IIRC)... all adds up to no Sydney winner. BBBH polls solidly, but doesn't win, simply because in the modern age only on-ballers can win. (Plugger excepted, but Plugger was an exception to almost everything.)

                          Reputation. Brownlow medal contention.

Can someone post when the tribunal news comes through - it often takes a while to filter up the Hume Highway.
