Yes there are, it is just a pet peeve of mine that doesn't really matter (but still annoys me none the less).
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Wasn't trying to trivialise your pet peeve - it is very justified. Mine was meant to be another (semi-serious) question.

Maybe it is assumed that M.Davis will never ever get a game.

hehehe, you had me actually thinking "MAN, that really is petty to be annoyed by!"

Yeah - when I re-read my post I realised the tone was ambiguous. Sorry!

I don't want to spoil the Jack love in... but the dropping of Moore and overlooking of Laidlaw in my opinion is a disgrace.

I thought Moore played well last week and surely we need to get him playing more games, not dropping him after one game and sending him back to Canberra. Moore is a skillful midfielder and a potential gun in our midfield... Jack will inevitably play the typical Swans shut down role. As for the overlooking of Laidlaw, he's consistently been the best in the 2s and regarded as the next in line. Isn't he a logical replacement for Kennelly?

This has PR written all over it instead of being a wise football decision.

Therein lies your answer. Moore has to learn the shut down game. No room for big headed primadonas with a decent boot and quick hands in our midfield. Blokes like that can @@@@ off to unsuccesful clubs like Hawthorn and Carlton.

                  Few comments

                  - I suspect most of us would be as excited if it were Laidlaw to debut this week. Both he and Jack look ready for the test

                  - Where Jack may slightly have the edge over Laidlaw is his consistency within games, based on the very limited amount of reserves football that's been available to us to watch so far this year. Laidlaw has dominated for short periods but has probably faded in and out of games just a little more. And Allison highlighted at the start of the year that concentration was probably the main thing Laidlaw had to work on. Maybe they think he's not quite there yet.

                  - In terms of Jack over Moore, I suspect it may have come down to leg speed. Kennelly is probably the quickest player in the senior team. Or if not, only a fit Crouch may be quicker. Moore isn't slow but nor is he truly quick. The Roos have a couple of pretty speedy players in their team so it may just be case of making sure there is enough pace to match them and also to break the lines offensively.

                  - And as has already been noted in this thread, there is a limited window of opportunity for Jack while LRT is out.

All that said, I agree that Moore is a little stiff but I suspect he will play for either Buchanan or Ablett. By naming the team the way they have, they have a bit more flexibility to move the names around.

I do not think that we will see Moore here on Saturady afternoon - and I think that your point about leg speed is on the money. Should it rain under the Dome Moore may have ousted Jack...

Except for the fact that the named 18 must play (unless they fail a fitness test), whereas the 4 interchangers may be substituted for the emergencies. Whether there's a particular law dictating this, or it's just convention, I don't know.

Not that Nick Davis is ever at risk of getting quietly dropped when named on the bench (as he almost always is). If the Swans ever drop N. Davis again, they'll do it with appropriate storm und drang.

North must be playing well as a team to win 2 on the trot with that squad. It's not exactly riddled with fearsome names, including up forward... but somehow they're kicking big scores. Goes to show it's a team game, you're after a champion team not a team of champions... and sundry other cliches.

Jack won't be ousted this week. It seems most clubs have a policy that players named for their debut will definitely play (barring injury) so that family & friends can make arrangements to attend.

Hence Jack being named as IC with the others as EM. From the comments of Roos earlier in the week it seems quite possible that neither Ablett or Buchanan will play.

Congrats to KJ for his debut. He is going to be used sparingly. He will not shut down Wells. He may tag up on Harvey.
Bulldog must be scratching his head, He may still play as Ablett and (wheelchair) Buchanan must still be suss!
Vogels & Laidlaw must be scratching their heads?
                            cheers

I thought this comment a tad melodramatic - till I saw the SMH today describing Jack's selection as "historic"! There may be something to it...

I think its pretty safe to assume that Moore will play this week. Ablett or Buchanan wont pass a fitness test. Probably Ablett will miss.
