Ok, massive statement with little basis in fact but I see some signs that Darren is having a good year getting better each week.
When Dean Cox was second fiddle to Gardiner, his skill level was modest and work ethic underwhelming. Exit Gardiner, up steps the real Cox. Athletic, powerful, busy and matchwinning.
Jolls' hitouts are second in the comp and he shares a big load with Peter. He has taken some lovely marks and converts his opportunities (loved that in-swinger against the Dees). His fitness is outstanding. It takes a fair motor to be able to leap in general play and hold onto the Sherrin.
He is running harder around the ground and dropping into holes, is confident about roaming the forward line and really has lifted to cement his place. He and Spida have a very healthy competition. I think Spida has shown him that it's for a big man to impose himself on a game. Sydney has lacked a game breaking big man since Stafford's demise and some may argue Greg was never that good either.
Any alternative opinions?
