"The skill level of our elite athletes has reached a point where there is no longer a differentiation," says Freeman, whose cutting-edge ideas and methods have helped Australia earn Olympic gold medals.
"The difference in skill levels has almost diminished. Take shooting a free throw: many AIS basketballers are as skilled at shooting free throws as Andrew Gaze. The difference is that Andrew is able to do it consistently under pressure."Comment

What? Did crouch play last night?!
Agree with most of the sentiments in this thread so won't elaborate on my thoughts.
Just wondering how it was possible for basically ALL of our players to have such a Barry Crocker? Usually you expect at least four or five blokes to have decent enough games, even if the rest of the side is woeful. But it seemed like everyone was terrible last night, save for maybe Goodes and O'Keefe.Comment

It's been mentioned in other threads that St Kilda kicked long against WCE today. Admittedly Kosi and Reiwoldt were marking well, but perhaps we should just try it against Geelong. We couldn't do much worse.Comment

That night thing is really interesting. I have said for the last few seasons that we really struggle if there is one drop of rain or dew on the ground. Did you notice how we constantly slipped over last night, did the same against the Dons.
I wonder if it has dawned on the coaching panel that we have such opposite day/night records.
Talking about coaching, how much is the loss of Jonas affecting us?Comment

As Bill Clinton would say..."it's the midfield stupid."
We have been beaten in the midfield in nearly every game this year....and yet we stiull have conceded the least points in the whole comp! ie defence no too bad.
We have won games with less forward sevice than any team in recorded history...so I don't think you can actually blame the forwards.
It's the midfield....we....just....lack...talent (and pace)"I'll acknowledge there are more talented teams in the competition but I won't acknowledge that there is a better team in the competition" Paul Roos March 2005Comment

Yes Yes & Yes, But I would have put McVeigh a footballer with skills as good a maggot blown infected turd. He is rubbish, what is the postal address of Paul Roo's so I can send him my chopped up membership card!!!!!!!!!!Comment

The following players are below AFL average for all or most of the list below which makes up the category "talented"
Fumbling
Contested Marking
Delivery by hand
Delivery by foot
Clean hands on the ball in a fifty-fifty loose ball situation
Quick and good decision making/awareness
Jared Crouch
Ted Richards
Ben Mathews
Jarrad McVeigh
Paul Bevan
Jude Bolton
Nick Fosdike
In my opinion there is no longer any place for these players in the side and they should be replaced by less experienced but more talented young players (assuming they exist in the twos) and, by extension, the choice of players to elevate should be based on talent and potential....not on work rate and potential tagging ability.
Work rate can be learned...talent can only be honed.
To continue my rant...the following players have above average "talent"...even if some of them are out of form
Barry Hall
Peter Everitt
Leo Barry
Ryan O'Keefe
Nick Malceski
Michael O'Loughlin
Adam Goodes
Nick Davis
Tadhg Kennelly
Craig Bolton
Meaning all the rest have swings and roundabouts talent, when they're good they're brilliant and when they're bad they're not very good (as opposed to embarrassing!)
Amon Buchanan
Tim Schmidt
Luke Vogels
Luke Ablett
Brett Kirk
Sean Dempster
Adam Schneider
Darren Jolly
Stephen Doyle
Lewis Roberts-Thompson
We have to rebuild..so bring in the talent and see what happens. The time for trying to defend the Alamo is over. Our Good Ordinaries are just Ordinary now so let's get it over with.
Cheers
Kirk, however, would be in the category of our best players. His disposal is questionable at times, but his possession count is always high and is work rate can never be doubted.
I think the biggest problem is that we have too many Kirks - ie. defensiive inside midfielders, as opposed to the running outside midfielders. We've never replaced Williams and Maxfield with like players, instead promoting more defensive players like Ablett and Bevan. Kennelly and Davis are the only half forward to wing players to provide the spark, and guess who was missing on the weekend?Comment

Exactly!Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

It's not our defence....
It's our fwd line.
If Mick O wasn't been having a cracker of a season, we would have been humiliated and looking at something more like 3-9.
Hall is being heavily tagged but that's no excuse for him dropping chest marks, the ball and missing set shots he's paid to kick. Absolutely woeful.Comment

Lets hope the first elimination final isnt at night!Comment
