G Ablett can do those things too.

As well as win a game off his own boot, kick more goals, get more possessions and lay more tackles.

"put tagger on them because they have little skill and footy smarts"

Who is "them" (who also should be the same as "they" in this sentence, but I suspect not - hence my frequent comments about English expression)?

IMO Jr is more of a "me " player but LA is more of a "team" player. They are both good players but they have their own unique playing qualities. Its not how many possessions you get its what you do with them that counts.

What is ment by that is you wouldn't put Jr on some one as a tagger because it is a waste of talent, but you would use LA in that role because he is good at it.If Jr has a great game and gets plenty of the pill and kicks a couple of goals, does that mean he is better player than LA if LA shuts down some one like Kerr,Judd or West? How would you rate a player like Kirk, who hasn't got a lot of skill or pace but he does the job nearly every week by shutting down an opposition quality midfieder?

GA is not always a gun on this, but I think he would beat LA, who is not renowned for quality disposal.

I would rate Kirk as effective as GA for a team, so maybe around a par as players. I think GA has the potential to be better than Kirk. I think Kirk is a better player than LA, as he is a better tagger, gets more of the ball, and more often uses it effectively.

But highly-skilled, match winning players are something I would prefer to see than taggers in a side or watching a game. Yes, all types of players have their place, but the former are rarer, more able to turn a game, and more interesting to watch.

Man on man i reckon it would be a tight call if LA was playing on GA.IMO LA has the potential to be better than Kirk because for one he has better disposal skills and is a little quicker.I agree highly skilled players are great to watch and unfortunately theres not many of them.If the Swans style of play gets us to the finals all the time i'm happy to watch it.

Does anyone still think LA is on a par with GA?

I never said that and initially thought that the comparison was made by a person with a very witty sense of humor.

I never forgave Luke for his clanger in 05 GF.

Yep LA suits the Swans better than Jr would.

Because GA is attacking and creative, and LA kicks clangers and forces stoppages...?

luke ablett is no where near nathan or gary jnr
                          enough said

apart from the fact he is a booming kick, he's miles behind them in talent, afl smarts and technique

but he's part of the sydney assembly line of blue collar midfielders....who played atrociously bad in the 1st 2.5 qtrs this week.

What I was really impressed with from Nathan Ablett yesterday was the quickness of his hands. I knew Gary had this ability but hadn't seen it from the big fella. He went out of the game after hurting his knee but was still useful because of his great hands. They chose their parents wisely.

using another sporting family analogy the waugh twins, mark was always more technically proficient and stylish as a player (gary jnr) but the man you want in the middle fighting to death is steve (luke) its sluggish and rarely pretty but what wins games and gives our team character
