Agree, the coverage wasn't that great. I thought it wasn't a great game to watch, but it was still a great win, if that makes sense. I think the Hawks were never going to allow us to play free-flowing footy today, and tried to play 'our' game, which it was why it wasn't pretty, but the difference was that we were able to play 'our' game better than they did. That said, we were lucky with some of the umpiring decisions that went our way, but it was still a pretty gutsy win considering they could have blown us away early.

I think the importance of winning a game away against a team in form with three on the bench for most of the game shouldn't be underestimated, although I do agree that we do have a few problems still. Surely Schmidt must stay in the team, though McVeigh was a little better today - he's been struggling, but I do want to see him succeed, Fossie took a while to develop too, remember.

Oh, and how good is Franklin. Was their only forward today. Don't think he's overrated at all though he'd had a few quiet games - his athleticism is amazing, and I thought B2 met his match today, and he's still a wonderful defender.

Boy are they sqealing about the umps on the Hawthorn Big Footy site.

Banging on about the 50 metre penalties. I thought they were there and the 100 was for mouthing off. They forget they got a mystery 50 when Dempster was on the mark and unless he was called back but didn't move, I have no idea. Looked like he took up the mark in the right possie.

The umps were red hot on HTB and they are complaining about not getting the calls. Strewth if I recall correctly there were 2 in a row in our forward 50 in the 3rd Q where they had the ball for an eternity in absolutely superb tackles by us, both times they had plenty of prior opportunity, then it goes up the other end and Goodes gets pinged after having it for a nano second and he was still standing. The one against Teddy in the 3rd Q when it spilled out in the tackle was a bit tough also. Thought though Ted only needed to tap it on in front of him and he was a monty to get a free.

"Baggism", in my experience, exists in fan forums everywhere. Baggies are obviously subject to continuous caustic criticism in their own lives, and as such, have no compunction about public vivisection of those who attract their ire. They usually have high expectations and little patience.

Last year JMc kicked 21 goals (21-9) and finished equal-10th in the Bob Skilton Medal; and he played on a number of the best players in the competition in his role as a defensive midfielder. Like any number of players on our team, he's off to a slowish start but at 22, if he can get back to his best and show some improvement, it's all good.

Nico's player ratings are bang on, imo. Who, for the most part, was McV on tonight?
I was wrong about Gerard and his hair.

McVeigh was on Crawford. A lot of running involved.

Mabey you could hilight a game this season where the team looked out classed.

Mabey your of the oppinion that we should just never be pushed or beaten and if we haven't won the flag after the first game then something is going wrong

I could try to translate that mess but there are so many erroneous assumptions in there it's not really worth it.

this wasnt much of a win or much of a game, but it gives us a half decent record at the break and something to hopefullly build on

Bollocks, it was a great win. Never played great footy all day but just gutsed it out especially given Kenneally's early shower. Maybe it won't turn our season around but it keeps us in the hunt and shows how there are few teams that play finals footy as well as we do.

Kirk comfortably BOG - staggers me that people on this forum still bag him. Without his work yesterday, we get smashed.

OTOH, kudos to Nick Davis who is turning into a VERY valuable player for us. Starting to deliver on the talent and hard work - good on ya Nick.

I'm reminded of one cliche at this point:

Great teams find a way to win.

We aren't playing our best footy by a long shot, but we still won. In the last month we have won 3 out of our last 4 and the game we lost, we should have won.

I think we may be building to a strong second half of the year. Plenty of players still to find form, plenty of areas to improve on (skills etc).

I hold hope, 2007 will be a good year for the mighty red and white.

Gee some of you guys are "glass half empty"/wet blankets.

Come on, if you are going to following the Swans, try to enjoy the good times!!!That was the sweetest home and away victory since Round 6 Collingwood 2003 at Telstra Dome. Just think of the following positives:

                            1. The Hawks were absolutely flying, having beaten recently and comfortably West Coast and Port Adelaide (away from home)

                            2. The game was in Victoria

                            3. Ablett was out

                            4. Kennelly goes down first minute. We are left with a bench of three for three hours. Also, remember how many games we have won without him over the course his career. Answer: 2

                            5. We are smashed in the first quarter, but came back.

                            6. A loss would see us 5-6, with in-form (and always headache) opponents to come in Collingwood at Telstra Stadium and Geelong at Kardina. Can you think of how many comfortable wins that we have had against Collingwood at Homebush? Answer: zero. The last time we beat Geelong at Kardina was last century.

                            7. We won without any of our forwards including Barry Hall having any influence.

                            Come on guys!

I was getting sms's from Sydney after the game, saying what a great effort it was. I asked everyone what game they were watching. we struggled over the line & that was all. I was still extremely worried with several aspects of our play, including our stop-start snail-like movement of the ball into the forward line against teams who flood, players kicking it indiscriminately to the opponent or to a team mate who had 2 players on him, and most importantly our terrible first quarters. And Leo Barry getting caught trying to crash through a tackle when we are up by 8 points in the last minutes of a game. Brain-destroyingly stupid stupid stupid stupid.

When I was singing "Cheer Cheer" at the end of the game, there were several sighs of relief. We played terribly yet still beat a team that has been playing well.

                              Hi all,

Just my two cents worth (which is nothing nowadays )

Watching the game in some way made me pleased to be a swans fan. By no means was it a great game but it was close, tough and well fought out in the end, and I do enjoy a close contest - a swans trademark (but at times I wish it wasn't - GF 05,06 come in mind). There were positives to come out of that game, which at times is all you need. Nick Davis is starting to come out of his shell, over the past two weeks. Spida Everitt is showing glimpses of his abilities which was doubted at the start of the season. Also, the effort and relentlessness from the players diving to retrieve the ball was outstanding and admirable, and at times match-saving (even though this aspect of the game is slowly dying out with the new changes). Most noticeable for mine was Craig Bolton, although soundly beaten by a much more athletic Franklin. And I enjoyed Leo's two goals (when was the last time?) who stood up and acknowledged the extra responsibilities with the departure of Tadhg. In all, a much needed victory and a hopefully a more prosperous 2nd half of the season
