Of course what I meant to say was "great article by Dermie" because 50 people saying the same thing is great conversation.

Great article, this is one of the reasons I would like to see Dermie coaching at the top level.Leave a comment:

Great article by Dermie and agree with moet of his points but like Liz not sure about the 2 no brainers.
Watching the Swans I always watch BBBH first contest closely and more importantly his second effort. If he contests a ball early that spills and he looks towards the umpire saying "what about me" instead of concentrating on the second effort, I always feel he is not going to have a good game.>
But if he digs in hard for the "second effort" and wins the ball you can almost feel his and the teams confidence lift.
Watching this year I think he has been looking for or even expecting the free and losing concentration through frustration more than in previous years.
Maybe his expectation was with the rule changes he would be awarded more free kicks this season?
Cheers

Interestingly, if Hall is not doing any of the ruck work in the forward line then one of our Ruckmen will always be there, basically clogging up the forward line. I think it would be more preferable and not as predictable for Hall to occassionally take the ruck work and have the Ruckman stationed a kick behind the play.Very interesting article - couple of things tho:- I imagine he's doing less ruck work this year coz of the Spida factor
- the passing to Hall really was appalling last week. Ablett's missed 15m pass in Q4 cost us the game every bit as much as Blind Freddy the boundary umpire
- I thought at least some of Barry's lead to the pockets was an attempt to take Michael & Fletcher out of the contest
But lots of the other stuff rings very true.
Dermie's right in saying that the GPS can be misleading as you can run around all day like a headless chook and have good stats with your ground coverage and yet still play poorly.Leave a comment:

Excellent article from Dermie. Especially this:
PART of Hall's problem is Sydney's skill level has dropped. That's my pet hate with the Swans this year - Hall leading to the pocket and teammates trying precision passes (and missing of course).Several times on Saturday night Hall ran to the wrong position, hoping that his teammate might pull out the miracle pass and drop it in his lap. This might have happened in the past couple of seasons, but not this year.
Hall must take matters into his own hands and get to positions that demand he be the recipient.
I hope this article is slipped under Barry's hotel room door tonight.Leave a comment:

The article took up an entire double page spread except for Nikki Tugwell's article in which Roos himself said that the Swans have been too Hall-centric! (Seeming contradicting Dermie's main argument).
He did have some interesting opinions about his ruckwork in the forward line though - no attempted hitouts all year.Leave a comment:

Pretty comprehensive...
"Hall went the other way and dropped out of the contest. It wasn't a good sign."
Dermie doesn't offer a reason for this, but to me this is coaching and seems to afflict most Swans at the moment.Leave a comment:

Dermie on Baz
I know Dermott is not to everyone's taste but I was always a fan of the insights he gave into specific nuances of the game - rather than just stating the bland obvious that is the trade of most commentators.
Here he provides - in written form this time - an interesting critique of Hall's game last weekend.
There are a couple of minor issues I'd take issue with - like the suggestion that his team mates are looking for alternative options more, something that was maybe true against the Power and Dogs but hasn't been obvious in most other games. And I am not sure which the two "no-brainer" frees are that he refers to. Presumably the hip and shoulder one is not one of the two, given there have been no rules changes that make that a free this year and not last.
In any case, it's a pretty interesting read, despite coming from the Hun.
