I don't think we matched up at all well with WCE - they're taller, quicker, smarter, more skilled - so we tended to try and shut the game down more. Short passes, lots of sideways movement of the ball, plenty of stoppages, play the ball to the wings and OOBs, flood back. That style of play tends to even out the game. It's when the other team breaks away by 4+ goals that we struggle to switch up the game plan to a more fluid, attacking style. Basically, we revert to 2005 play when facing the Eagles and there is no Plan B against them. We were exposed yet again this season as plodders.Comment

40 possessions. That's why they rave about him. That was an amazing comeback from him, to be able to run out a game like that, to touch it 38 times and probably pick up Brownlow votes. What the @@@@ does the fact that he has a drug problem have to do with it?
But I agree about Bevo
I wouldn't call it a comeback - he wasn't injured, he wasn't suspended - so exactly WHY did he miss so many games?Comment

it is a stupid example to set to all people - take drugs, get away with it and then be worshiped on return
it's absolutely ridiculous!!!Comment

stunning comeback.
and yes, as an afl player, bevo makes for a great league meathead.then again, i think it would be worth trying 15-16 players on field so what would i knowComment

Like other similar instances of hero worship, the media lead the way in idolising and giving fame to these people, think Paris Hilton, when many of us really have no interest in their lives. In this case, Ben Cousins is a durg addict, a trait which goes against the grain for many of us, add to that the fact that he is still playing when if the afl's piss weak drug policy had been doing its job he would be long gone. He is seen as a cheat. I see him that way and always will. It doesn't matter how good he is, he is always tainted by his drug addition. Then you have the media just about having an orgasm about his comeback game, again, a reaction which we can do nothing about cause they're the media and we're nobodies.Patterns emerge, but do they mean anything? No.Comment

It worked nicely tonight because our lack of potential goalscoring forwards meant that ROK had to play closer to goal, which in turn meant we couldn't rely on him to manufacture his usual glut of forward 50 entries. So we relied on smalls to carry the ball through the middle and deliver the ball on the break, which created a few marks, but a lot more sharking opportunities for our small forwards.
Our 'tempo' chipping game didn't work tonight partly because of poor execution, and partly because a team as professional as the Weagles can often see where the next short kick is going, push numbers up and shut it down. It's horses for courses; against some teams (particularly many of the defensively-minded Victorian ones who are happy to fall back when we have the ball) it works fine.Comment

The drug problem is everything - he is a cheat - he broke AFL rules and general Law - you do understand that bit? His disposals were mostly junk so don't praise them too much.
I wouldn't call it a comeback - he wasn't injured, he wasn't suspended - so exactly WHY did he miss so many games?
Cousins is not a cheat as far as anyone knows. He tested positive to recreational drugs in the off season. He may well have a drug problem but it had nothing to do with his performance tonight.Comment

Anyone else think we got nothing out of our Ruckmen tonight?
I though Everitt was poor (33yo though) and Jolly was worse.
It is amazing how badly we can play against the Eagles and still get close (GF 2006) - maybe each side is 'scared' of each other?Comment
