Let me help out here. Richards was taken apart by Hansen and Dempster has a problem which Bevo doesn't. Grundy is being tried one last time as a defender against the bottom side while Leo is injured, Brennan will get a lot of the ball wherever he plays and will add more versatility.

Is there any confirmation that Crouch has been added to the long term injury list? Or is there another way for rookies to be elevated mid season?
Sounds like the reasoning behind the inclusion of Spriggs last year.

I have an uneasy feeling that a couple of talented young players will take a walk at seasons end.You wouldn't blame them either but if they do they will come back to haunt Roos.

Hear this every year - to the best of my knowledge neither ben Fixter nor Josh Willoughby have carved up the AFL.

Dropping Teddy this week seems the oddest one to me - he was towelled by Hansen but I just thought they may have needed him this week w/o Leo. Let's hope B2 on Richo works because Plan B after that is looking awfully thin.

Shame for Crouchy if he is indeed gone for the year.

The dropping of Richards I can understand. It is a disturbing lack of faith given we've just lost one key defender, but at least his performances have been pretty mediocre. Dempster had 22 touches, 11 marks and 4 tackles in the last game, with three clangers. That's a lot better than Grundy and Bevan have ever done.

I wouldn't have thought getting the ball and doing something with it as Dempster does is a problem. But if it is then Bevan certainly doesn't suffer from that type of problem.

For mine, Dempster hasn't looked the same since the Rocca clash. He's been slow, making clangers & way too loose. The unfortunate thing is to drop him the week after he's been part of a very inexperienced back line - despite the stats I thought he was so-so last, but then so were all our young defenders. Seems strange to need make an example of Dempster this week, unless of course there is some residual damage.

I hope they do. I've said this previously, but I really did think that his instincts were very good and he was just caught out by the switch in skill and pace from Canberra to the AFL; keep in mind that it isn't just that the players are faster, the skills are better so if you are thrown in there and stand at full back not only will your forward get off to a lead quicker but, unless you are playing the Swans , the delivery to that forward is going to also be a hell of a lot better. I thought that he also zoned off pretty nicely from his man to cut off leads a few times and showed a good understanding of when to run off his man when we got the ball- 2 things that I still don't see Dempster, for example, doing well even when playing from HBF and by nature of the position having more license to do so.
I can't remember the last young guy before Heath that was brought into our backline and actually had to defend in the goal square straight away, normally they get a nice transition in by playing on the HBF and not really having to be anywhere near as accountable.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

I'm really hoping Reg can be like Ben Rutten 3 years ago. Struggled to find his place up forward and was in and out of the team. He was then switched down back and was persisted with and became a top full-back. *fingers crossed*.

If they do, it could be yet another day out at the SCG for 'the carrot' (Richo).
Grundy and Bevan in ????????????? Both crap last week, and all season so far.
Dempster out ???????????? Played pretty well last week.
LRT out ???????????? Surely a good game to find his feet.
Laidlaw ???????????? Given half a chance, looked good, then dropped.
Teddy ???????????? Perfect game for him to find some good form.
Moore and Phillips, when are we going to find out if they can play consistantly at AFL level ?????????

Sounds like the 'leadership group' have been at it again

Relax petals. This is the bye round. We wont lose. Richmond are tanking.

We need to see what Brennan is made of before the years out. He wont want to be a rookie again next year, and will probably give the game away if he's not promoted and get on with his life.

Brennan could be a real smokey. He was an early pick (first round?) by the hawks. Never kicked on, Got a bad injury, and we picked him up. He obviously has class, and if he's over his injury, and his kicking can be worked on, then he could be a real gem.

Suprised by LRT's absence. Richards must be getting frustrated which has caused his form to drop off. Dempster unlucky. Could be carrying an injury.
Bevan... very lucky.... He could actually be an ok player if he didnt give away so many free kicks.

Wazza, although I'm not sure Im totally cool with the team selection this week, I think you are on to something with your comment.

The only rationale I can find for the team selection this week is that Roos et al has already notched this game down as a win and are using it to get some senior game match fitness in a few players who are otherwise on the edge of selection. Sort of makes sense to me if you consider it as an insurance policy in case some of our better players get injured leading up to or in the finals.

However, if this is the case then I find it amazing that they rested Hall against the weagles yet play him against the tigers.

But at the end of the day, the decision to drop Dempster over the likes of Bev/Grundy is still a shocker!
