Bevan what a game

Thought Bevo's game was ordinary (in a good sense). He did nothing remarkable for a top level player and didn't mess up very much. It really is an indictment of his output this year that the title of this thread is "what a game" because he managed to play the sort of normal game that about 25 other back pockets play every week in the afl.

BTW with reference to the argument about Bevan being a rising star nominee...so was LRT and he can't even get in the team at the moment.

Bevan was BOG against Essendon at the MCG in 2004 (when the umpires had to be admonished for pretty much taking the game away from us)...but so what? He hardly ever has BITS of play to match that these days (let alone whole games).

Plenty of us could see him in the #14 back then. From memory he kicked about 10 goals straight as well. The fact is he can't play that well any more. God knows why, quite frankly.

It's not every player that reaches the "noticeable for a lack of @@@@-ups in a match against a side with one win at the arse end of the season" status.

Whoever did the votes this week for the Age's Player of the Year award (Michael Cowley, I think) saw fit to include Bevo amongst the top 5 players of the game (also the top 5 Swans of the game).

Though I confess some of Cowley's prior week selections have been a tad bemusing.

Personally I thought he had a good game by any standards - not a great game - but a good one. But a player holding down a spot in a team with top four aspirations who has more than 50 games experience should probably be expected to have a 'good' game every other week or so at minimum, with maybe the odd 'excellent' game thrown in for good measure.

Considering that some (round up the usual suspects Captain Renault) rated him the worst player in the AFL, his game against the Tiges puts him well above that rating. He is a good developing player who plays his role well. The next month will be a test for all the youngsters.

Our coach calls it singing off the same song sheet. Or playing their role. Perhaps a star studded outfit something like the Harlem Globetrotters is more to the taste?

Fair enough. But his progress was disrupted by injury. I also meant in the sense that he has some improvement in him. As distinct from a development player who has potential but not as yet achievements.

It was said he wouldn't get a game in any other team in the comp. He clearly would with the Tiges. In the Bevo feeding frenzy some pretty outrageous claims were made.

I wouldn't say its a certainty he'd get a game at Richmond. Im sure even Terry Wallace would have to have a good long think about playing him if he were to look at rounds 1 - 16. He turns 23 soon and is at the stage where he should be turning in consistently decent/good games for us. Youth and inexperience is no longer an excuse.

Can't speak for the Wallet. God knows what he's doing to the Tiges. But any team with this absymal record this year -

Ranked 16th in Tackles Per Game

Ranked 15th in least Opponent Points Scored Per Game

Ranked 12th in Team to Opponent Kicks Per Game Diff.

Ranked 16th in Team to Opponent Tackles Per Game Diff.

would take a young courageous hard tackling defender.

perhaps thats true, but again we're basing it on what we saw in one game. While a club like Carlton or Richmond may give him a chance if we delisted him this year (Carlton likely to do another cleanout), I doubt he'd do any better in that environment than he has done here. Saddo is a good example of this.

I fell asleep on the couch for the last quarter, but from what I saw, Bevan played a pretty good game again. Kept Davey out of it.
