So whose going to play on Newton or Robertson or Miller (if they send him forward) while Bolton is standing Neitz? I know Bolton is good, but to expect him to cover every tall forward on his own is a bit much.
At least one of Grundy or Richards is a cert to play - and to remain in the team until Barry is ready to return, and quite possibly beyond that too.Comment

Still cringe at that 2005 GF brilliant pass to Cousins. Come to think of it the one thing that stands out in his career, no 2 things, his third up in the last Q and desperate dive to knock the ball back in against Geelong in that famous Nick "i see it but dont believe it" Davis SF. Apart from that I struggle to come up with many highlights. At the rish of sounding ignorant to the coaching staff, who know best, I have to agree with you.
NOG is not meant to star as his job is usually one about accountability, however when you've got to make decisions when you've got the nut, NOG is only JUST there.
He does get turned inside out too often and his kicks are just indiscriminate rubbish most of the time.
I like NOG but he has about 2 good games a year. Not enough to give him preference over potential.
In his defence though his last 2 years he has struggle with back related hammies, but that's what happens when players are continually played injured.Comment

Grundy has shown nothing so far..So whose going to play on Newton or Robertson or Miller (if they send him forward) while Bolton is standing Neitz? I know Bolton is good, but to expect him to cover every tall forward on his own is a bit much.

Since when do you need a tall to play on Robertson..
I'd prefer a runner, to run him off his lazy legs....ie Dempster or Laidlaw

This is from another thread, but I'm responding to something relevant to this threadand clearly still harbours hopes of his 200th game sometime later this season. We'll see.
Also tips Ted to make way for Ablett - with Laidlaw and Dempster unsurprisingly set to miss.
I have to wonder sometimes whether somehow Dempster has just worked himself into a position where the coaching staff have a definite view of the type of position that he will play because of his aerobic capacity. If they are keeping Grundy in the team as a tall defender, apart from weight (and I don't really see Heath as looking particuarly stronger than Sean) they physically don't differ too much... except I would say that Sean is significantly more athletic than Heath. Has someone just looked at two and decided "You- you're a flanker/wing... you- you're a KP prospect!"... Heath is a strong mark for his size, but Sean is too... I normally have a bit of an issue with Sean, but that is because he doesn't seem overly creative as a HBFer, I think his man on man defensive work is perfectly fine, and being a creative HBFer doesn't exactly appear to be the type of role they are trying Heath out in... and I like the idea of Heath as a defender...
Sean vs. Heath
Height: 191 vs. 192
Weight: 89 vs. 97
Games (2007): 12 vs. 7
Avg Disposals: 10.5 vs. 5.9
Goals: 3.4 vs. 0.1I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment

I agree with stellation....Dempster, although a little light, has shown he is a good spoiler and could run any of the three you mention, off their feet. Grundy is 1 cm taller, heavier (but not noticably stronger), slower and with no where near the staying power, and not as versatile.... Dempster should not of been dropped in the first place, after a pretty good game against the beagles.
I sense both Brennen and Grundy are on trial for next year, I see no other reason for their sellection above other ,more obviously worthy, candidates.Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MTComment

Dempster is very unlucky but not because of bias against him. He is a running back and with Kenneally and Milcevski together again our defensive structure simply doesn't need three running backs. He's clearly not a key position defender (not enough upper body strength) and isn't nippy enough or strong enough in the tackle to take the small forwards. His other role as a running midfield defender (as against Embley) isn't really needed with the D's blue collar short arsed midfield. Don't think he was dropped after the Eagles game because of poor performance (he had 22 touches and 4 tackles) but because of a lack of a match up. Dempster is like the wallflower at the dance at the moment - can't find a match up.This is from another thread, but I'm responding to something relevant to this thread
