I'm confused. Here's a guy who's done the job pretty well in recent weeks, why leave him out when you have a guy like Ted who was dropped, came in as emergency and was still only average, who stays in the 22?

    I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

Probably came down to match-ups - ie a tall vs a mid.

With Leo out, we're vulnerable down back. I realise the Dees don't have the scariest array of tall forwards going around but with Grundy so inexperienced down there, if he starts getting badly beaten by an opponent, the coaches would have few options to move around. While Ted's not an A1 key defender by any stretch, he can at least have a go. And if it is Neitz who proves to be the main threat, he is pretty good at playing that "man standing in the hole in front of a big burly leading FF", which might help Grundy out (assuming Reg will get first crack at Neitz).

I thought about that issue, but still, sometimes you just have to put your best 22 on the park and go out to win the game, rather than not lose it.

True, but I don't think Schmidt's importance to the team is such that he is likely to be the difference between a win and a loss in that part of the ground. He's shown solid promise in his outings this year and I'll be surprised if he's not soon cemented in the senior team. But he's not there yet, and his last couple of week's he's been down a little on influence.

I was pretty pissed off earlier in the season when he got dropped before the likes of Mathews, McVeigh and Buchanan, all of whom I thought were in worse form that Schmidt. But Monty's had a couple of weeks out and is hopefully going to regain some semblance of form, McVeigh's improved marginally since midseason, and no-one would argue Mathew's current spot in the team based on form.

If we lose tomorrow I will be disgusted with our selection panel...but what's new...Richards is a shot bird, Grundy is makeweight in defence but neither of them justify selection ahead of others. Can some one clarify why LRT is not getting a run?

With Leo still out injured we need Richard's height in defence. But I am surprised by Schmidt's omission.

He has been very ordinary in the reserves playing in a very ordinary comp and would be totally out of his depth in an AFL game. That's not me saying it either, it's Paul Roos (or words to that effect).

No swans on tv yet again...

I hate the AFL. They have ruined my enjoyment of footy in so many ways.

Not that it helps if you don't have Foxtel or don't live in Sydney and want to watch it now, but Melbourne get a FTA replay later tonight. (All Tassie and Canberra games on Foxtel are replayed on FTA late at night)

                      Great start.

                      Sydney 3.0 18
                      Melbourne 0.2 2

Are there any late changes to either side?

The commentators were just about wetting themselves as it was such a bad kick.
