It was effective football, and 4 points.
Kudos to C-Bolt if he isn't AA CHB I will eat my hat, solid at the back all game and running down g-string who had a open goal.
Also well done to Ted, not quite back to Super Ted but a much improved performance.
Also kudos to Bevan much malinged but played well tonight, and some very smart one percenters.Premiers 09,18,33,05

Ted may have played his second best game ever for the Swans.
Fantastic blocking job by him against a star of the league.Comment

Does anyone have a copy of the game on DVD/VHS. I was at the Sydney FC match tonight & missed watching all but the last quarter.

Some people just don't get that about the Swans. Players like Ablett, Matthews and Bevan have always been crucial elements in our chemistry. Stop the other team's playmakers and mercurials and our overall class wins out.I was wrong about Gerard and his hair.

Ted did more than block Nick R.. Spoiled and harassed too. Nick was Big Ted's beach.
I watched Nick against the Crowbots at Telstra Dome a few weeks ago. He was a monster that couldn't be stopped, especially in the 4th quarter.I was wrong about Gerard and his hair.

Not quite right Swantastic. The Swans do have a great final quarter record in 2007, but we have actually lost 5 final quarters this year, (all by fairly close margins), and had one draw.
Round 4 Adelaide Lost 4-7
Round 7 St Kilda Lost 18-19
Round 8 Port Adelaide Lost 26-33
Round 10 Essendon Lost 21-25
Round 11 Hawthorn Drew 15-15
Round 18 Melbourne Lost 19-29
So ironically, big overall wins against Port and Melbourne represent out worst fourth quarter performances.
Going back to the Round 19 St Kilda game, there were some real positive breakthroughs.
1. FINALLY, we have won a home and away Telstra Stadium game in front of a large crowd. Indeed, this was the largest Sydney crowd ever to witness a Swans victory in history.
2. I think the 2007 night game jinx is finally gone. This was a great night game win against quality opposition, (St Kilda were full strength and played with a lot of heart). Until this game, we had only beaten lowly ranked Melbourne (Round 5) and Richmond (Round 17) at night in season 2007.
3. Craig Bolton, Teddy Richards, and Paul Bevan were all magnificent in a real defender?s game, (A sportsman like praise is also due to St Kilda?s Max Hudgston). If those blokes continue that form, with the return of fit and in form Leo Barry and Lewis Roberts-Thompson, adding the running Kennelly and Malcelski, we will have the best defenders in the competition. It?s a great position to be in mid August leading to September.Comment

Gerard Healy said it was our gut running that won us the game, how true.
Kirk made a couple of silly errors but he really did star, Buchanan and Schneider were at the fall of the ball all over the ground in the second half, Goodes ran all night but gee he wastes /stuffs up some passes, Fozzie had a gut running second half, Jolly played an outstanding game, Spida was all over the ground and O'Keefe ran himself into the game in the second half."The Dog days are over, The Dog days are gone" Florence and the MachineComment

I thought that it was a good tactical game to watch last night. St Kilda flood worse than any other team in the AFL. If Sydney couldnt get the ball down to our forward line before St Kilda flooded they would play posession football to get it down there. It didnt help that Hall was having a shocker. No doubt we'll here about Sydney's boring win but that for me, beating a quality team the way we did I'd give Roos 9.5/10 for his coaching last night.
Without doubt one of Craig Bolton's best games ever. All is forgiven McVeigh (2nd BOG), Bevan and Richards. Dunno what the hit out stats were but Jolly's marking around the ground was good.
It feels so good to have watched Sydney almost end St Kilda's season.Last edited by cruiser; 12 August 2007, 09:01 AM.Occupational hazards:

I know some have said it was a boring game but I enjoyed it. At times I was looking for Noah (but we decided he was too busy looking for the second monkey) but I think we only have ourselves to blame for the flood as we didn't play on quickly enough and gave the Saints time to flood (oops sorry get numbers behind the ball).
B2 was fantastic. Loved his tackle on Gehrig in the last quarter and some of his marks were brilliant.
the MMM commentators amused me when Milne scored as they were contemplating how he was perceived by his teammates as he had to run to find some to high five after the goal.Bring it on!Comment

Last night was different, and you could see players being switched around to create mismatches, drag opponents away from the action. And the change from a zone style game to man-on-man was quite apparent too.
The most pleasing aspect of the game for me was the way the Swans worked their way through their flooded forward line. Delivery forward still left a lot to be desired but it was a massive improvement on the games earlier in the season. Their switching around in their own half seemed to have more purpose and frequently they were able to find someone just past the centre with finally some space to run and deliver a purposeful kick forwards.
And finally, the return of the Monty we all know and love was telling. For the past two seasons he's been the cleverest player we have in working just outside the 50 to create a quality scoring opportunity. And last night he delivered again against a quality, disciplined opposition. Could be the most important factor of all towards a charge to a top 4 spot - and beyond.Comment
