Well done young Ed on a first game to remember. This kid looks a tall type and is more athletic than our midfielders. He has great pace and endurance for a bigger type bloke. It would be such an asset for us if the young man can play with that pananche consistently.Makes you wonder who else is being held back in our two's.

If I was the marketing person for Bega cheese I would be doing something right NOW as regards Ed Barlow.

Brabazon is certainly putting his hand up NOT to be traded.

The difference with Barlow and Grundy is that Grundy got his debut goals as a forward and clearly doesn't have the endurance of Barlow. I compare Barlow with Goodes because he appears to have that similar running endurance. If that is an indication of how he plays then to have these 2 blokes as running ruck rovers is exciting stuff. Maybe a strong body like barlow at centre bounces might go a way to solving the clearance problem.

By the way it looks like Barlow's disposal is better than that of Goodes.

Goodes is usually under more pressure. We still need to see what Barlow does when he has players hanging off him. (But agree with your implied point that Goodes does often butcher the ball when in space.)

That said, it was probably Barlow's disposal that impressed me the most last night. His athleticism was a given but I didn't expect him to display such good footskills on his first game. That long pass to find Fozzie at the end of the 3rd quarter was perfect- not to mention his confidence that he could deliver over that distance. And he also hit Schneider on the chest at the top of the 50 in the fourth - just a shame that Schneider had a brain freeze and played on.

To all the people here who get excited about Schmidt - THIS is the type of performance from a newbie that gets me excited. With one game, Barlow has compelled the selectors to persevere with him. Our other fringe players need to learn this sort of presence. Very exciting indeed.

I've only just gotten home from Brisbane and am very pleased to see this thread here. Great first game from Barlow, maybe enough for a Rising Star nomination? He didnt appear intimidated much at all for a first gamer. For me, his performance was the highlight of the game (the name Hall comes to mind when thinking of a low light).

Hard to get a rising star nomination after 1 game, but a good debut by Barlow (and enough to figure in my TLM voting)

Why? In terms of presenting and marking, that was the best game Hall's played in an age. Sure, his kicking wasn't too flash but there were probably a dozen players who made less of a contribution than Hall. And his misses were far from the worst based on where he kicked them from.
