It definitely was an upper injury (more like a thigh than a knee). Then again if it was a broken leg he might not have been back at the end of the match on the bench, where he was on crutches..

No mention of that on the TV. I don't think you sit in front of the bench and ice broken legs and he looked to have ice on his knee area.

What happened today? How can we turn it around so much? Stunning victory but really wonder why we cant turn it on like against the better sides a bit more often.

The thing about what appeared to be a poor third quarter (we still kicked 4 goals) was the stupid frees and 50's we gave away and some almost lairising passes eg Malceski to Spida. Of the 6 goals the Hawks kicked at least 3 were our stupidity. I think from the TV we had more frees in the first half because we weren't doing those dumb tackles.

Good that we turned the trend around in the last Q.

Well done Swans. That half of football eclipsed anything we saw in 2005 even! I'm disappointed they only choose to show up in certain games however.

Great to see a more attacking style of play and the absence of Hall really was a blessing in disguise. The forward line functioned beautifully and it's a mystery to me why it can't do that even when Hall is playing.

LRT far exceeded my expectations and bar a few brain fades gave our defence a far more stable look. With Leo, B2, LRT and Richards (who played well) we have fairly good unit for the finals.

You think Franklin is big I was shocked what a huge unit Roughead is! He'll be a fair player over the next few years.

Goodes' goal was the best I've seen at the SCG for a long time. Fantastic to watch.

On TV they reported it was only a knock and nowhere near as bad as first thought.

Last week we had the whole side in defence, this week we flooded the forward line. That was clearly Mathews best game ever. For a while there in the 3rd Q we went back to the usual style and they ran it out easy as it became a 2/3 on to 1 contest.

I guess the good thing is we can mix the game styles up and I much preferred todays brand.

I agree - with Hall in the side, the team is just way too Hall-focussed. Unless they can get it through their heads that they must only use him as a decoy - they will more than likely lose. Even when he's in the clear lately he still dops sitters and 1 week off is not going to change that IMO.
Patterns emerge, but do they mean anything? No.

Plonk him in the Square and tell him not move more than 20 metres from goal. If ball falls his way well and good. The significant thing from today as far as the forward line goes was the pressure on the defenders. Hall doesn't give us that once he is out of the contest. I dont think other clubs see Hall as a big danger as does the media.

At least in part because "good" opponents generally put some pressure on and don't come up with so many awful turnovers. That's not to take anything away from the Swans today - they were superb and would probably have won had Hawthorn turned up to play. But our opponent out there today either

                      a) was scared of playing the Cats next week; or
                      b) believed they just had to turn up to get a victory; or
                      c) have massively over-achieved this year.

Was so glad to see Barlow get that goal. Great mark in front of his prototype and hopefully the shot at goal gives non-reserve watchers some idea of why ORB, BBB et al have been raving all year about his set shots at goal - straight as a dart. Was a little worried about how he'd go this week after his horrors against the Pies. But although not everything worked out for him, I love the way he just gets to so many contests - and makes a contest of it when he's there. Still early days but there were some signs that the Brisbane game wasn't a fluke.

                      LRT - welcome back!
                      Micky O - welcome back!
Davo - see what happens when you really work hard in the forward line!
                      B2 - you star!
                      Goodesy - your star!

Apart from that 5-10 minute period in the first quarter that Bloods was talking about, the first half was outstanding. It's been a while since I've seen a game where one team has dominated in every aspect. Yes, it is frustrating that we haven't played like that more often this year, but what's done is done, and, knowing that we might well be eliminated next week anyway, I chose to just enjoy the game and the way we were playing! At least we've given ourselves a chance of beating the Pies if we go into the game with the same mindset.

Second half the intensity dropped off noticeably, though having been 71 points up it is tough to maintain the same levels of concentration for the whole game, and we were never really threatened by a fairly insipid Hawks team.

2 great games in a row by Goodes, and they finally kicked it to Davo! I actually would have liked to see him kick a bag, if only to read Stella's response

The midfield seemed much more proactive at stoppages. LRT even looked like he belonged out there, could it be that we missed him earlier in the season? Good to have him back though!

Who the hell is that, did he decide to go for some KFC at half time and not come back because he was no where to be seen in the second half.I didnt think the Swans were that impressive today but just ok,some of their disposals were shocking.
