    Yeah, i agree.

I think this was probably Crouchy's last season anyway. Roosy let him get that 200th game in.

And as for Leo Barry, i dont really care what happens to him as long as he doesnt play im happy.

You are right Layby, I can't believe anyone would say we should get rid of Mick!

OK, he is 31ish but he is the spark and skill that our side lacks - plus lets face it - he does have a few points in the bank.

Crouch should be allowed to 'retire' and McVeigh doesnt seem to rise to the occasion very often.

good comment hammo, if we look at the port side from fri night they had 10 survivors from their 04 side , 11 with wakelin who is injured but is retiring anyway.

Every season the make-up of our team is so delicately balanced.

The reason that we were able to play in the GF in the previous two years is because of the way Roos was able to get the most out of a team not filled with high quality players (particularly in the midfield), but which remained relatively injury free. However things fell apart this year, starting with Hall.

The MOL and Hall issues were created because Hall did not have the fitness / form to play as a lead-up CHF where he belongs. With both Hall and MOL occupying the same space in the forward 50, Davis was left out in the cold.

If Hall had an injury free (and confidence rejuvenated) year the structure should work again, with O'Keefe as the wildcard.

As for trades, we need to secure good midfielders with pace if we go down that path.

If Jolly wants to leave and Doyle could stand up for a year we could get a midfielder of quality. However, all the experts keep saying that this year's draft is very poor - so there is no point trading the likes of Jude if we were only going to get rubbish in return.

Most of the players mentioned for trade are not on big $, so it would be better to keep them than get rid of them for nothing.

Bevan is a huge worry, he showed real grit and determination when he first joined the team (like LRT), but is a bundle of nerves. I said in June that he should not be played in defence (as his mistakes were far too damaging), but he seemed real slow this year. His time is probably up. I wanted Dempster to succeed, but he is also a bundle of nerves (thought that he would have improved by now) - maybe his time is up.

Ablett and Crouch (injury free) still have pace and should be kept - defensively we are much poorer when they do not play.

I would be happy to give up Fosdike, but doubt that he is worth much on the open market. McVeigh? Maybe, but again what would we get in return? I don't want garbage picks in a rubbish draft when the players are not costing the club big $.

Our best options for trades are probably with players we could not afford to lose, like O'Keefe. Would robbing Peter to pay Paul garner success? If we could get a real high quality midfielder (mid to low 20s) for O'Keefe then it might be worth it - but I would hate to lose him and it would probably come back to bite us in a couple of years when MOL retires and Hall declines.

Hopefully the new Irishman Murphy can pick up the game like Kennelly and provide something fresh to the team.

I'm really not sure if Hall can return to the form of previous years given the new rules. O'Keefe needs to work a lot harder now given he gets a lot more attention.

I think our forward line should consist of Davis deep and leading long a la Williams of Hawthorn. MOL and O'Keefe to play as other leading targets, more to the flanks than the centre, and also as marking options. Hall to play further up the ground as a link from wing to F50. Drop a ruckman into the goal square on occasions to vary it. Use Schneider, McVeigh and/or Philips as crumbers.

              Little downside.

Ablett does not have 'usable' pace and Crouch is too slow now.
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

As an injury free lead-up CHF the new rules would help Hall.

Ablett has enough pace to serve as a run-with player (with the ability to create on the rebound - especially when compared with our other options). Crouch was too injured this year to tell - but he was a genuine sprinter and they don't usually lose all their pace that quickly.

I am pleased to see a little sanity. Our expectations are too high; we got towelled up last night, our guys look tired, Jolly disinterested. Unfit players never stack up especially in finals: LRT: not match fit, Leo: ditto, Bary, severely restricted, Schneider; carrying and in jury, and wouldn't be surprised if ROK was the same.

As for the Donk, I believe he signed a two year deal last year.

Wat about, Jolly wants to go: wat about a swap for Fev: two big power forwards, or, Jolly for a top midfielder: Doggies need a ruckman, straightg swap for someone like Cooney. Fletcher from WCE will be traded, would add some class to our midfield. With LRT having a full year, Leo into a back pocket, Tadgh fit, and some improvement from the likes of Barlow, Laidlaw and perhaps Brennan (can play), we should be there about..
Reacting and wanting to get rid of a team that has played in a prelim, 2 GFs and an elimation final, is ill informed..

I've been a Jude fan - he's tough, good leader & does plenty of hard work. But he seems to have plateaued at the Swans & perhaps a move on would be best. I think he'd be a useful addition at a number of clubs.

As for what we're looking for, I think the Pies showed us last night we can't rely on a couple of aging crocks as our big forwards (any reason why Roos didn't try the ruckmen up forward last night?). So, we either turn Ted into a lead up CHF & hope his goalkicking improves or we try again. And I tend to agree there's probably not roomfor both Mick & Barry unless the club is convinced the 2003-6 version of Barry can return - if not, maybe time for Mick to move on.

Other than that, there seriously isn't any real trade bait in this squad (subject to Jolly's intentions). Fight on, bounce back & blood some newbies.

I reckon Malceski is the only player who can say he's really improved this year which leaves a lotof upside for next year!

That's not right. There are 20 premiership players on the list and some would command some decent exchanges with the right clubs.

Some potential trade baits are -

                        Buchanan
                        Schneider
                        O'Keefe
                        Ablett
                        J.Bolton
                        Dempster
                        Davis
                        Malceski
                        Jolly
                        Fosdike

Everyone has there favourites but there seems to be universal acceptance by everyone except Paul Roos that the current list won't win us another premiership.

Chris Tarrant was traded by Collingwood for a first round pick - they ended up with 2 top 10 picks last year. That's how to rebuild a list.

Um, in a word, no. Why would we trade the kind of players that we need more of? for a gamble that might now even pay off. The rest, i agree with to an extent, depending what was offered for them, but not Malceski, and we wouldn't trade O'Keefe unless we could get a gun midfielder.

I think we still need 'Leapin' for his experience down back. He struggles on bigger bodies, but would still towel up a smaller opponent.
