Who should retire or be traded

Id keep leo but he is out of position. Id take the captaincy off him too. Id get rid of crouch was never most skilful and seems a beat behind the game all the time, keeps getting caught.
Try and trade jude bolton, who has been one of my favourites but he seems to still be rated highly outside the club and i think hes lost a fair bit.
I think all players are worth considering for trade for the right deal except maybe goodes, kennelly, okeefe.
Oloughlin better not be costing us too much salary cap eitherTheres not much left to sayComment

I just dont konw what to think about Leo Barry.... but his last two years (not helped this year by injury) he hasnt been a shadow on his former self and that glorious year in 05. The rule changes have hurt a lot and he has definetly lost a lot of his pace. If you get run down by Josh Fraser then you have problems in my book- even though that was as much Barry's fault as it was the lack of swans players there to try and help him! Just not sure he will ever be close to the player he once was. Would love to be proved wrong however!"You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

Good point - it was just Rusling's third game for the year!
He's not even all that big either.Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

Leo Barry will, and should, play on in season 2008. The occasional screw-up shouldn't be used to obscure the fact he's a great mark, creative, takes 'em on and creates the run from the back that Sydney relies on. We're an inferior team without him. LRT just needs to come on (and stay fit) so that Leo can be released from playing on gorillas.
MOL would surely be thinking that he's got more to offer after a terrific performance last night. Up to him; we'll have him if he wants to keep going.
IMO Crouch should be delisted. The way the Swans work is that they persuade senior players (and sometimes not-so-senior players like James and Chambers) who have no future to 'retire'; but Crouch is such a stubborn bugger he would probably have to be cut.
As for trading, sure, almost anyone is possible; but the trade market is so atrophied these days that it's virtually certain no more than one player will leave or arrive through trading. The real story of 2007 as far as the Swans' list is concerned (apart from who we pick at #11, our highest pick since McVeigh at #5 in 2002) will be how many of a pretty fair number of deserving rookies get promoted, and how those who do get the nod come on in 2008 and beyond.Comment

He was awesome last night. One of the better performances on the night and one that actually learnt from a bad performance. Looked faster than some of the younger blokes on the park and I hope he stays for another season!"In some ways we?re less predictable to ourselves and sometimes that can be detrimental because we don?t really know where we?re going" - P.RoosComment

Collingwood (along with other teams) have worked us out - and played accordingly. We were a rabble (with the exception of Goodes & MOL) simple as that.
I wouldn't know where to start re delisting etc - so I'm not going to try - but here are some random thoughts on the situation we are in.
As much as it pains me to say it - we are better off without BBBH - and I was dissapointed with his tantrums "Richo style" when the ball wasnt passed too him even though when he was clearly being marked, and then when he wasnt marked he dropped it. He's back on with the old girlfriend, so this on again off again thing might be having an effect.
Bevan - the less said the better. McVeigh - same
ROK -- where the hell was he? methinks too busy trying to negotiate a deal for his and the blondes wedding photo's with a womans mag - from all accounts they are wanting about $80,000 (thats the rumoured amount for the wedding extravaganza) the highest bid thus far is about $500 and a free wedding cake from "Guns and Ammo " magazine.
Craig Bolton - this guy has held the backline together all year - played his heart out all year, maybe the fatigue of that responsibility finally got to him, he couldnt be expected to carry the can for the back line much longer.
Leo - you have lost your mojo, you cant dodge the youngsters like you used to and now its just embarrassing when you try.
as I said random thoughts - probably in the wrong thread, but I couldn be arsed to type it again! ;-)
anyway - thats it for this season, time for change................
As for 2008 - decisions have to be made and I feel that the '05 Grand Final credits have well and truly expired. Next year players should be picked on actual form & fitness (I know it sounds simple) and not on GF perfomances 2 years prior. As for a clean out there are a few players that should have the "its time to go" said too them.
But to me it is time that we had a new game plan, the current one (and if there is a plan "B", I have yet too see it) is outdated - its time for Mr Roos and his coaching staff to come up with some new ideas, they are just as responsible for this years performance as the players.
But the upside is think of all the money we will all save not going to Melbourne - so it cant be all bad.lLast edited by Wardy; 10 September 2007, 09:09 AM.I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

Yes, Port began a downward spiral - they missed finals last year and finished 12th. They added a heap of young players with just a core of older premiership players. Since 2004 they have lost Bishop, Dew, Hardwick, Wanganeen, James, Kingsley, Montgomery, Pickett, Carr, and Schofield.
We've lost just two players from 2005 flag side - Ball replaced by Everitt, and Williams.
They have 15 players 25yo or less. We have 8.
They will have 2 players 30yo or older. We will have 6.
They are now a young quick side. How does that compare to our current team?
As for other teams sliding after GF appearances - look at the Kangaroos, Carlton, Essendon, Brisbane, Adelaide. It's normal and requires some degree of rebuilding with younger players. This is especially important for a team that relies on a hard tiring game plan.Last edited by NMWBloods; 10 September 2007, 09:15 AM.Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.
