The inevitable Bevo scapegoat post. It is sheer nonesense to say that Bevo's pass to a static Mathews was a watershed in the game. We were KILLED FOR PACE in the midfield. We have never adequately replaced Paul Williams. Our lack of pace and footskills in the midfield group was cruelly exposed. To delist one of our young defenders is a simply ridiculous response to a chronic problem rhat has gradually got worse after Wilo's retirement and the aging of our midfield. If you want a clean out start in the midfield. If you want to recruit to overcome the deficiencies try quick midfielders. One of the Burgyones would fit the bill. And of course there is Judd. To make room under the cap Magic, Barry and Barry Hall (go boxing) would have to retire. Trade Jolly to Carlton for top draft picks and on trade to the Eagles. Nah your idea of delisting Bevo will probably do the trick. Bit like calling for the plumber to fix the leaking faucit on the Titanic as it continues to sink.
Who should retire or be traded

Good point. In order to rebuild Jolly must be traded to Carlton and we pick up some high draft picks. Either to refresh the squad or to trade with. Lets hope the big Donk holds up next year.Bevo bandwagon driverComment

Don't call me fickle - you obviously have blind faith and don't watch any football but the Swans so are oblivious to what happens to other teams after they have an 'up-period'.
Yes, Port began a downward spiral - they missed finals last year and finished 12th. They added a heap of young players with just a core of older premiership players. Since 2004 they have lost Bishop, Dew, Hardwick, Wanganeen, James, Kingsley, Montgomery, Pickett, Carr, and Schofield.
We've lost just two players from 2005 flag side - Ball replaced by Everitt, and Williams.
They have 15 players 25yo or less. We have 8.
They will have 2 players 30yo or older. We will have 6.
They are now a young quick side. How does that compare to our current team?
As for other teams sliding after GF appearances - look at the Kangaroos, Carlton, Essendon, Brisbane, Adelaide. It's normal and requires some degree of rebuilding with younger players. This is especially important for a team that relies on a hard tiring game plan.Comment

Silly thread.
Firstly, you don't trade your captain (or any one of them)
Sets a terrible vibe within the club.
Next, trades, delistings and retirements will happen for reasons.
Jolly may want to go so we get what we can for him.
O'Keefe may be traded for a great deal.
all the bit players may not be worth much.
The club has a great trading history in recent years, I excpet them to continue. The difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.Comment

Main problem with those trades is IIRC most involved the first round draft pick and we said we wouldn't give that up.Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

If Jolly was going to go back to Melbourne, you could consider a trade for someone like Daniel Cross.Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

Insane! He had an average game, maybe an average year for him, but if he wasn't expected to run through the midfield into the halfback line to cover for our lack of running ability in the middle. (37 the notable exception) and was used as a ridiculously big engined forward, i.e third and fourth leads, it would be a much better use of his talents.I wish my weed was EMO so it would cut itselfComment

You need to give up something to get what you want in return which is why talk of trading Mathews, Crouch, Bevan etc is a pointless exercise."As everyone knows our style of football is defensive and unattractive, and as such I have completely forgotten how to mark or kick over the years" - Brett Kirk

We should trade B1 (gone), Fosdike (not what we need), Richards (the miracle is he plays well occasionally), Bevan & Dempster (still only one player in 2 bodies), Benny if anyone is interested, Grundy (hopeless cause), Vogels, Moore & Phillips (clearly we don't want them). Brennan is just shake your head stuff...he has shown nothing.
Contrary to some opinions IMO we need the massive restructure NOW.Comment
