Darcy's younger brother Joe seems to have a lot of buzz about him and could also be taken by either Essendon or the Swans. Does anyone know much about him, other than he's an almost 200cm key forward... I'd say we'd be long shots but I'm sure we'd be in his ear already."As everyone knows our style of football is defensive and unattractive, and as such I have completely forgotten how to mark or kick over the years" - Brett Kirk

How old is he Hammo as Ned is the one that's playing for Calder as a 19 yo? Ned is 200cm and is very much a development ruckman that's why he's playing as a 19yo. He was from a fencing background and never played much footy when he was younger.I FEEL THE NEED FOR SPEED!!!!!Comment

Playing in the under 16 championships for Vic metro. Can't be drafted until 2012 unless he's contracted by GWS as one of their 17 year olds."As everyone knows our style of football is defensive and unattractive, and as such I have completely forgotten how to mark or kick over the years" - Brett Kirk

Draft likely to prove tricky for picky clubs
Meanwhile, two father-son prospects for the 2012 draft, Jack Viney and Joe Daniher, starred on the opening day of the national under-16 championships in western Sydney yesterday.
Daniher, the 197-centimetre son of former Essendon and Sydney player Anthony, and available to either club under the father-son bidding system, kicked five goals and took several contested marks captaining Vic Metro in its 19-point loss to South Australia."As everyone knows our style of football is defensive and unattractive, and as such I have completely forgotten how to mark or kick over the years" - Brett Kirk

Sheeds has entered the race
Daniher, the son of one of Sheedy's old pupils Anthony, has been a revelation in the national under-16 championships and has been likened to a young Paul Salmon.
Daniher could choose Essendon or Sydney under the father-son rule, but appears set on Essendon.
Insiders have labelled it close to "mission impossible", but Sheedy could land Daniher if he was convinced to wait and nominate for the 2012 draft.
"You can't let Essendon and the Swans have everything," Sheedy said."As everyone knows our style of football is defensive and unattractive, and as such I have completely forgotten how to mark or kick over the years" - Brett Kirk

Even though GWS has the first three picks in the 2011 National Draft, they can't get him if he chooses to accept a Father-Son offer as F-S takes precidence over the concessions given to GC17 and GWS. So as Anthony's son he is eligible for F-S to Essendon or Sydney but almost certainly he'll choose Essendon.
Which ND pick a club has to use to pick up a player under F-S depends on whether any other club bids for him. If no other club bids for him then the F-S club can use it's last pick to grab him, as Collingwood did with Jaxon Barham.
If the player is likely to be a high draft pick then other clubs are not going to allow a F-S club to grab an elite player for basically nothing, which is what last draft picks are, so one or more clubs will put in a suitable bid, as North Melbourne did for Darcy Daniher offering pick 32 therefore making Essendon use their next pick after that.
If Joe Daniher is seen as a potential top five pick, we could offer our first pick at say pick 10 thereby forcing Essendon to use their next pick after 10 to snare him. Depending on where Essendon finished in relation to us, that pick could be anywhere from 11 to 27 which is good value if Joe is a top 5 pick.
The same rules apply next year in the 2011 National Draft if we want to take Tom Mitchell, who is likely to be a top three selection by all accounts, so we are highly likely to need to use our first pick as GWS will bid for him for sure with a high pick. If we finish 8th next year then we would use pick 20 to get him. All that is if he agrees to be drafted to Sydney under F-S. Fingers crossedLast edited by 707; 8 July 2010, 06:12 PM.Comment

Not correct because FS is optional for the player involved. He can decline Essendon and Sydney's offers (if they arrive) to take him FS and choose to nominate for the draft instead. That is what Sheedy would be trying to persuade him to do. (And is what Marc Murphy did when Brisbane wanted to take him FS.)Comment
