I swear at times the NRL do something so much better than the AFL it isn't funny. At least it wasn't Cath & Kim or Dame Edna making you cower away in embarrassment, but what the hell was with the Athens 2004 gymnast with the cups. It was just plain boring. At Least the NRL keep things simple & have a few bands & that is that! Their pre-matches are always great to watch. Even as a non-fanatic you still want to keep watching!

When oh when will Australians realise that the time before a match is to fire people up before the game. AFL pre-match spectacles do the exact opposite!

Compare what we saw on Saturday to what we are going to do pre-match at Sydney FC on Saturday night (Am flying up by the way for an early birthday present to myself-3 points against the much-hated Victory! ) They put a picture of each player on the screen. Then the compare yells out "In jersey number 1, Clint!" (crowd) "BOLTON!" By the end of that the crowd is juiced up something chronic!

Unlike what you get at any AFL GF.

I must be odd then to not have the interest in the pre-match entertainment that some others have - I go to a grand final to watch a game of footy - I dont care about the pre match singers - except one - the national anthem needs to be sung by someone who can actually hold a tune and not add their own "arrangement" too it. Some years its great - others appalling, the rest of the groups that go out on the ground can just go away as far as I'm concerned (with the exception of the Beatnix at the 96 Prelimin at the SCG- they were actually entertaining and then the sound died mid "I saw her standing there" )
But then I can understand why they need to gee the crowd up at Soccer - not alot happens during the match - so they need something to keep the punters amused, I mean there are only so many players who can take a dive for a penalty to make it interesting (just waiting for JF to do his lolly over that one!) watching paint dry would be more exciting, but thats just my opinion.

I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

I couldn't give a stuff about pre-match entertainment either. And the crowd on GF does not need to artificially pumped up either!

It's actually pretty sad if they need to artificially pump up the crowd before a game.
