I was thinking about the possibility of getting Playfair before the trade week - he is tall, solid and a very good mark (looks a bit ungainly, but had that uncanny ability to take regular overhead marks - like a stronger Scott Stevens). Although I thought I read somewhere that he was staying, or going somewhere else etc so I forgot about him.

Not many players at the swans take overhead marks in our forward 50, so I am happy that he is coming - creates a target which is good for the crumbers.

Was a little poor in front of goal but that could improve.

Had a couple of injuries during his time at Geelong and they just had too many options that could fill his role in the end (with the improvement of N. Ablett & Mooney - even Hawkins).

Please use him down back, Paul. We don't need another tall forward yet.

Other than that he is a great pick up.
Hopefully the Hyphen can show him make strong 2nd and 3rd 'efforts'.

Here's the 'official' line from my mate down at the Cattery...

It was either Playfair of Gardiner that was going to be offloaded...Playfair was showing a lot of promise up until 18 months ago when he broke his jaw - his confidence seemed to be sapped by that incident and he's struggled to recover it. We now class him as 'a good VFL player' but really hasn't shown any signs that he could step back up to our firsts. He played a lot of ganes in the back line for the Ressies this year and to be fair played well in the GF - we opted to play him in a more negating role as it was becoming clear he hadn't regained the confidence to be a leading forward. The thing with him is you can spot within the first few minutes what time of game he'll have - if he spills up his first marks he's in for a shocker, if he manages to grab them then he'll be solid. He goes with our best wishes but unfortunately he'll be remembered by many as the player who coughed up the ball for Cassisi when Port beat us this year - that seemed fairly typical of what we had come to expect.
              Regards,

                        Playfair - Trade Fair

Great pick up for Sydney as Geelong had no room for a player with more development in him. He's played some great footy this year and will add the height that's desperately needed.

This move has the ingredients of a very good selection.

Leo to the pocket and pinch hit as the player that fills the gap. LRT at CHB and Playfair at FB. (Or other way around) A bit of dash of the Half back line with Mattner, Kennelly / Melco.... Big teddy as the fall back position...... far from worst in the back line.... (Can also go forward - which is option 1 for him next year)

Crouchy back to his running back best with Keiran Jack as replacement if injured or retired.

                                Backline settled IMO

                                Forwards -
BBBH - mark it and kick it. No other instructions.
MOL hope you have a good year - if form fails - retire. leave on top of your game.....
Phillips if not delisted Forward pocket (learn to finish)
                                McVeigh Forward pocket
ROK - more of the same
                                Nicky D - get really really fi.t

Don't see a lot of "Speed" being added

Must be the next years option...?
