Doyle - Farewell, almost made it to 50 games.
Simpkin - No surprise, didn't fit into the Swans midfield mould.
Phillips - Somewhat surprising, has ability but rumoured to have had disciplinary issues.
Vogels - Showed early promise but lack of pace was telling.

Could be a few more surely?

We only need four if we stick to three picks, list both Leo & Magic as veterans and promote only two rookies in Barlow & Jack or Brennan.

So long big donk. You could have been a predidous talent if you werent cut down by injuries.
Swans gave you a good run, and you repaid them with your 2006 finals series. Got us back into the game in the GF.

Vogels, you played more AFL games than a man of your ability should, and you did well. Look back on your short career with pride.

Phillips, you were used as a pawn by Roos in his personality battle with Davis, and have every right to be pissed off. I think another club might take a punt on you.

Roos has already confirmed that we will only be using three picks in the draft so four delisting will be it, unless they decide to promote a third rookie.

If you take into account the two traded that is a turn over of 6 from our list last year which is a reasonable clean out.

Truth is we are not going to see a wholesale clean out until the end of 2009, which will see a number of high profile retirements.

Hard to argue with these delistings really.

Bit of a shame to see Doyle and Vogels go, as I still think both could have made it if things went their way (Doyle with injuries, Vogels with game time). Though, like others have said, it's awfully hard to argue against these delistings now.

I guess Doyle's delisting means he can join the likes of Jamie Lawson, Heath James and Ryan Fitzgerald as players whose careers were cut down by injury.

Basically what I thought would happen.

Simpkin was promoted last year and did not take his game to a new level.
Phillips problems off the track apparently and too slight for AFL.

                    Doyle too many injuries.

Vogels was expected, just did not cement a spot (or maybe was not given a chance).

Vogels is unlucky, he was never given enough of a chance.
On the other hand Grundy has been given plenty of chances and shown little.
At least Vogels had a bit of spontanaety about his play.
I pretty much know what Grundy will give us next year, and I'm not looking forward to it.

If Doyle really is into the 2nd year of his contract, and we delist him, then no wonder we're in salary cap trouble. Nothing like playing money for a guy who isn't even on your list. (Hey, pay me, I'm not on the Swans' list either.) And if we get any injuries to Everitt or Jolly, who's going to play ruck? Not Currie for about 3 years, and if Shaw will be around at all query if he's ready/good enough to play AFL level. Adelaide, for example, had 6 ruckmen on their senior list in 2007; it'd be very bold for Sydney to go into 2008 with 3, one of whom is years off being ready.

Interesting that Faulks has survived if this list is accurate. Funny that there's never been any 'player suspended for disciplinary issues, but given a 2nd chance because we're such nice guys' tough-love puff-piece on the Swans' website. Just deafening silence and the late-season disappearance of Colombo.

Good luck to these four unlucky blokes.Maybe Vogels and Doyle could find a new home in the pre season draft.Whatever the future holds for each of them I hope they have full, prosperous lives.

Vogels is getting middle aged in footballing terms, so definitely no surprise. Reckon the Donk's ticket was marked by the development last year of Jesse White as a back-up ruckman. Not surprised, but sorry to see Simpkin go. He has bundles of talent, but has been unable to put it to best use, he could have been a terrific runnining midfielder. Flipper it seems was one little man too many.

I will not be surprised if this is not the end of the delistings. B1 will certainly have to accept a much reduced contract now, and will be free to go in the PSD if he is unhappy with what is offered.
