Amazing that this has got to the 3rd page.
Who cares whether in theory, in some alternative universe, we might pick up Cousins? He will never again be registered as an AFL player. Not while Demetriouuuuu continues to run the show.
Laurence Angwin has real talent and athletic ability, and just needs a bit of guidance and structure. Let's start a thread on whether we should pick him up.Comment

Worth thinking about, but he'd have to do something about that tatt - 'suc his life' indeed ...He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)Comment

No, No, No, No, No !!!
I just can't believe how any Swans supporter could even remotely see any advantage in obtaining Ben Cousins on our list. It just completely staggers me!
Yes, he is a great player, and deserved a Browlow Medal and 6 times All Australian selection. But please, please, think about this very carefully. This is the bloke who was seen for years as the so called "spiritual" leader of the West Coast Eagles player group. This image of leadership continued even after he was sacked as captain in March 2006. Yet whilst this Cousins leadership image continued, there was clearly a very serious drug culture at the club, as witnessed by not just Cousins, but at least Gardiner, Kerr, Fletcher, and Chick, (and almost certainly several more players). That drug cultural extended to even retired players such as the tragic Mainwaring.
If Cousins is both a serial drug user and the spirtal leader of the players' group, he must surely be seen as the ring leader and key responsible figure in the drug cultural of the West Coast Eagles. Because of that cultural, I firmly believe that the club not only lost a great player, a superstar if you like, in Cousins himself, but for completely opposite reasons, it lost a second great player and superstar in Chris Judd. I strongly suspect that clean, Victorian Judd suddenly left Perth to get away from this insidious drug culture of the club.
So there you have it. Almost certainly because of Ben Cousins and his lifestyle, the Eagles have lost two of the game's truely great midfields. With Cousins himself, (without the drugs), and Judd, there was the potential for the Eagles to win a string of Premerships a la the Brisbane Lions (2001-2003). Instead, the 2006 win will be in this era their sole flag, when they should have won in the same era at least 3 and even 4 premierships.
No I'm sorry. Yes, Ben Cousins was on field a superstar, capable as we witnessed in July against the Swans of taking over 40 possessions. But his life style off field has been shown to be a cancer on the West Coast Eagles football club. Most probably, that cancer will be hard to remove in the years to come.
But from a purely practical point of view, even setting aside any moral issues, it's a cancer that has fatally impacted upon the club ON FIELD.Comment

Yes he has big problems.
But look at some of the other 'talent' we have recuited; Locket took some swan face off in a match, but we still recruited him, and Hall had a seat name for him in the Tribunal.
Face it, he wasn't caught with coke of estacy, or heroin.
And if he is to escape his addiction, leaving Perth is the best thing for him.
Bottom line, there is an election on, so everyone wants to put the boot in.
Face the hard facts people, if Spider can get a two year contract with us after his record, anyone can!!!!!doof-doofComment

Lockett and Hall were not drug addicts

What? I think you will find that he is addicted to at least one of the above. What he was "caught" will is irrevant
And if he is to escape his addiction, leaving Perth is the best thing for him.
That's where really naivity sets in. Being a drug addicit is not like say, having a knee injury, where it will all get better in time. Its not easy for an addict to give up.
Bottom line, there is an election on, so everyone wants to put the boot in.
This has nothing to do with the Federal Election

I would not renew my membership of the Swans if they tried to recruit him. Not that I think for a moment that they would. Roos and co know better than to have his poison in our club. Some people on RWO need to read Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray.Occupational hazards:
