I'm not actually convinced that Cousins is addicted to drugs and I think that supposed 'addiction' is offered as a means of partially excusing or at least explaining his behaviour. Rather, I think that he is addicted to a partying lifestyle and celebrity image, which appeals to him greatly. Unless he has a serious meth amphetamine addiction, I doubt that his health or life is in much danger. Rather it's his reputation and sporting career that are in danger.
Ben Cousins PSD?

How do you know he hasn't admitted his addiction to his family, friends, teammates and club. And you could very well be right, And hopefully you are. But for me to be convinced that Ben Cousins is heading on the right path (rather than hope), I think I need to hear or see evidence that he has accepted that he has an addiction / problem and is determined to allow professional people to help him back to a clean and healthy lifestyle. He's still in denial.
There's no requirement to admit it to the nation. That's an unreasonable standard that no other drug addict would ever be held to.
The fact he's completed rehab once and is about to do another stint would seem a pretty good sign to me that he knows he has a problem.
He may be a lot further down the road of recovery than what has been speculated. It sounds like no-one outside his family really knows."As everyone knows our style of football is defensive and unattractive, and as such I have completely forgotten how to mark or kick over the years" - Brett Kirk

As most professionals will say, any addict going through rehab will re-lapse, Cousins at probably the most difficult time through a rehab pursuit lost his close friend in Chris Mainwaring, which may not have helped.
(Not excusing the guy, wife and i cant stand the weagles), however living in Perth knowing how the players are portrayed here, Cousins has gotten himself surrounded by unsavory characters and cannot find a way out over here. If he wants to commit to rehab himself, which he seems to, and then commit to football, his only best place is either Sydney or Brisbane.
The best place for him would be Sydney, Brisbane has a history of letting players do what they want (Aker).
Would i want Cousins at my club, i guess the answer would be if he commits to the rehab and then to football, with terms in his contract about who he socialises or is seen with, then i would take him into the fold.
You would be mad not to ask the ? of a player of his capabilities.
I beleieve our strong leadership group would keep him in the fold as well it would probably be in his best interests of his health, if football was to be a priority in his life.
Sorry if i am making sense out there to the rest of you...ahahahaComment

Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

I'm not saying he hasn't done that. But he has denied to the media that he has a problem.
It's also unreasonable that no other drug addict is able to be sent to rehabilitation at Malibu on their employers money. When the media was reporting on the problems he has caused out in public, that is affecting the reputation of his club and the league. If he wanted this attention to stop, he would admit his problem to the media, apologise, and pledge his commitment to rectify the damage caused and beat his addiction. Because he hasn't, the media will continue to hound him - which they have, and that has ultimately lead to his sacking from his club and banishment from the game. The duty of care in which you were harping about was also neglected from his part to his club, the league and its sponsors.
If it was initiated from himself and that he was paying for it out of his own pocket (which he can obviously afford), then I would believe it. At the moment, he is being "sent".
And this could be true. I hope so.Comment

So I guess we are all in agreement that we should pick him up in the PSD if he is available then. I'll let Kirky know.I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment

The thing that dissapoints me is that Kirky knows that he should do that, just like every other member of the leadership group, but consistently fails to do it. When I watch games I sometimes wonder if Benny is the only one who is paying attention and looking around to get instructions from you every time he gets the ball!I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
