Seems Cousins is shocked Swans aren't interested.

Cousins said he knew nothing about the Sydney Swans announcing on Friday the club was not interested in recruiting him.

"I didn't hear it mate," Cousins said.

That is contrary to what a Qantas flight attendant who looked after Cousins on the flight said.

The attendant said Cousins was given a copy of the sports pages of one of the Sydney newspapers during the flight.

"He looked down, saw the story about the Swans not wanting him and said 'Oh f...!'," the flight attendant told reporters.

Poor disgraced ex-west coast eagles fallen star ben cousins.

Between the time he said he wanted to play AFL again (on leaving Perth airport on the way to rehab in the US), and getting on the plane to the US (after a delayed stay in Sydney), the Swans had called the media and said no-way-jose.

A bit premature from the Swans IMO - we should have at least spoken to him to see where his head is at.

Having a rehabilitated Cousins in our midfield would be an absolute boon for us, whatever the nuff nuffs think. I'd take him over Crouch, Mathews or McVeigh anyday.

Yep - who cares about this dickhead thing. Hall is a bit of a dickhead. Schneider is a bit of a dickhead. Lockett was. I'm sure we have others in our current side who are.

We should take Benny with some clear restrictions in his contract.

My god, we have cried year after year about our midfield of cortinas, and here's a ferrari with only minor damage being offered to us for free.

FWIW, he's never failed a drug test so he's got no strikes against him, he's getting himself fixed, and therefore is a better recruit than a certain group of players [Mod Edit: possible libel].

Disgraced ex-west coast eagles fallen star ben cousins is not very good at adhering to contracts with clear restrictions.

The drug possession charge was dropped. He is still being charged with failing to undergo testing.

As bad as our midfield is (or is perceived to be), we still don't need DEWCEFS ben cousins.

In terms of taking him for 2008 (which is all the Swans have ruled out thus far) I would think that where Cousins' head is at is irrelevant. If they had to offload Schneider for salary cap reasons, they'd have no chance of paying Cousins what he can reasonably expect to earn (even allowing for a bad behaviour discount).

I suspect most clubs will be able to rule him out for 2008 for this very same reason.

Fair point. But there are ways around the salary cap such as backloading contracts. I would have preferred to see us at least explore the possibility rather than dismiss it outright. Judging by Cuz's supposed reaction to the newsaper he was reading on the plane, he may have harboured some hope of playing in the red and white.
