I haven't looked at you site yet, but "im severely dissappointed in Wiki.
Wiki acknowledge that the name of our game is "Australian Football" yet proceed to at every instance to call it "Australian Rules Football" or "Aussie Rules" etc etc. Wiki blindly refuses to budge on this most basic of transgressions. The football we Know is played in football leagues by football clubs or Australian Football clubs.
Their are no "Rules" leagues or clubs. They don't exist. In fact the last thing you would call Australian Football is "Rules" because simply there are none - they are laws. Australian Laws Football. Not to mention that "rules" is redundant. If it's Australian Football then wouldn't the rules be Australian? Do people call Australian soccer "Cambridge Rules". Pfft. Good luck with your project.

    .

Since you brought that point up, overseas people refer to our game as Australian Football any mention of "rules" is confusing.

So can you name any "rules" leagues or clubs?
You do know the meaning of colloquial don't you?
WTF would you refer to a sport by it's colloquial name when you you have it's formal and correct name which also happens to be shorter and neater? That is the question.

You are free to call it anything you like. Matter of fact, how you could call anything football where most of the work is done by hand is beyond me. Then again calling baseball world series, because it is played in the States is also beyond me. A Tour de France that starts in The Netherlands, England, Switzerland, Belgium or Italy, is the biggest joke of all. And calling football (voetball, fussball or whatever language you feel comfortable in) soccer, must be worse.

We call it Aussie Rules, or Australian Rules, or Australian Rules football. We know, we live here. What you call it, is entirely up to you.

Good luck explaining it your way. Try and get out of bed on the other side sometime.

"Australian Football" is shorter and neater than "Aussie Rules"???????

                          Really????

Yes, those are colloquial references. I just call it football.
But if you want to be correct and formal it's Australian Football.
Just like Gridiron is the colloquial name for American Football.
