I barracked for teams in the WAFL, SANFL, VFL and AFL.
I played and coached in various junior leagues.

I didn't play, I came to this country too old to play. I wouldn't want to be an umpire. I'd feel the arm of the AFL up my arse every time I blow the whistle. I dont care what you or anybody else call it. You can be right, wrong, arrogantly idiotic about it or you just don't know better.

This here is not wikipedia, a reference I also despise because it has little basis in fact and is completed by anyone that thinks they know something. And that includes critics. This is the museum of Victoria site http://museumvictoria.com.au/discove...ules-football/

Again, I don't have to give you the freedom to call it whatever you like, because you already have that freedom.

Don't you dare deny me and my friends to call it what we like - Aussie Rules. It sits fine with me.

The PC crowd might think you're a Black Sabbath fan if you say Aussie Rules so its best not to confuse them.

On more important matters, I'm up your way in a couple of weeks. Want to celebrate winning the 2012 Aussie Rules flag with a beer?.

It's always been Aussie Rules in three generations of my family. And when I take my kids to park, I ask them if we are going to play soccer, aussie rules or rugby. They know exactly what I mean. So that's four generations.

Rugby League does not exist in my family (cue spitting sound - embittered ex-Bears fan) but ln past generations, it was always referred to as "League". We were a rugby family.

So? It is a very big conceptual leap from that to "it is wrong to call our code Australian Rules football". People call it Australian Rules football, or Aussie Rules for short. They also call it Australian football. Both are correct.
