Basil Sellers, who is a bid Swans supporter is one of the peole behind these statues. I heard him interviewed on ABC radio during the cricket yesterday and whilst he was focussing on the criteria for the selection of the cricketers (e.g. must have played for NSW and Australia) he suggested that it would have to be players who have played on the SCG and for Sydney

I would suggest that Kelly, Plugger, Roos, Magic and Goodes are the main candidates

I think Lockett's unique relationship with the SCG and the historical significance of putting the Swans into their first GF since '45 and breaking the goals record on the ground will be enough for him to get the nod over O'Loughlin/Goodes.

I dunno though, maybe Nick will prove me wrong over the next few years of his career

Why? He never played at the SCG.
Fair point. I suppose Skilton will be better remembered for what he did for the Swans as opposed to the SCG.

Kelly and Lockett would be the favorites but I hope at least one member of the premiership team makes the cut.

If they included a premiership player it would have to be Goodesy.

It's a bust at the SCG, so it will be a player who has performed memorable feats at that ground. Kel and Plugger fit that bill quite nicely.

He may sometimes look it..but Richie Benaud isnt dead - apparently he was chosen as the first, partly because he is cricket and that he is alive

As for the ones at the MCG...Barassi, Matthews, Lillee etc are also still with us

Why not immortalise someone when they are still alive - to receive the honour.

I cant imagine statues around the SCG without one of Richie

But they'd have to paint the statue..... I couldn't imagine Richie out of a Biege jacket (Or Bone, Ivory, Off white, cream, Tan, Light, Khaki)

I actually thought Roos might get a gig too, being a past player and the first premiership coach since the club relocated, it would be quite fitting.

No, Adrian Battison Scott Russell & Nick Daffy would be far better.

And Jason Saddington-God's gift to football-even better again!

Seriously, a NSW AFL player in Paul Kelly & NSW resident & AFL record-breaker Tony Locket would get my nod to be honest.

Good to see the SCG Trust (finally) realising where their break is buttered.

I would only support a statue of Lockett if he committed to come to the unveiling.

Personally I'd prefer MOL, Goodes or Fossie in recognition for his BOG in the grand final
