Schneider: You Don't Know What You've Got 'til It's Gone

I'm with the lobster on this, they tried to turn him into something that that he's not; however I will clarify that by saying they tried to turn him into a "Sydney" midfielder, which he's not- he may be perfectly fine in the midfield at another club that understands you need to have some degree of attack from the midfield to counter balance all the defence (I'll give it to the Swans that last year they played a hell of a lot of games on the SCG where the attack from HBF is basically coming from the midfield for half the game anyway because the field is so short... also they've been very successful with that model AND the coaching staff I'm sure know a hell of a lot more about football and the bodies at their disposal than I do).
I don't think that sending Adam off was great for team structure, it's one less attacking guy. I took a quick scan over Scotty scotty bo botty's excellent RWO stats (great to have btw Scott, please keep it up for this year for those who don't have easy access to the print version of the Hun) and apart from finishing fourth in our goal kicking tally (at a decent clip too) Schneider was third on the team (both in total for the year and average per game) behind Hall and MOL for combined Goals + Goal Assists; the combined averages are below for our best performers in that category.
Code:Player G+A avg Barry Hall 3.4 Michael O'Loughlin 2.652173913 Adam Schneider 2.619047619 Nick Davis 2.5 Ryan O'Keefe 2.304347826
Goal Assists are an important stat (I believe they are at least) and I expect in the next few years, as the love of sporting stats grows and grows, we'll start to qualify decent players by adding comments such as "he's a 20/20 mid/hff". I'll go out on a limb and suggest that a 25+/25+ is moving into the "very good player" category.
We did need to freshen things up a little, I like the additions we have made to the team but I'm just not certain that we made the right subtractions.Last edited by stellation; 11 March 2008, 07:57 AM. Reason: Edit: table of G+A was in the wrong order :)I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment

Effectively, to get over Schneider getting the boot we need somebody to step and kick 50 goals (on top of their effort for last year) or 25 goals and 25 assists. I don't see any of the neo-blood brothers (Bird, White, Barlow, Jack, Schmidt) being able to do that yet.
I diagress, perhaps the scheinder-shoes will be harder to fill than expected unless somebody like Nick Davis can kick an extra 25 to 50 goals this season!Comment

I had Moore down for 3 goals and 2 assists on Saturday. I'm not suggesting that this will happen every week, but a pretty reasonable start one would think.
I reckon you guys are nuts stressing over Schneider, he's gone - forget him.Pay peanuts get monkeysComment

yep. with you here ORB. Doesn't matter what he does now (and I wish him all the best), he's no longer a Swan. We need to build a bridge, and after seeing Moore on Saturday, he may well be our bridge.Comment

Stell your right its a bloody long post but its good. What you were saying with the goal's/assists i think we can make up the 25+ goals/25+ asists in the form of Mattner/Kennelly/Hall/Micky/ROK and Davo.
Dont forget Hall was down last year and Davo was missing for a while. On the SCG Mattner will kick the ball from the back line into the F50 no problems and if its to a target theres 1 assist straight away.
On losing Schneider i was dissapointed but we can cover him no problem with a few of the senior players stepping up and the younger guys. Now this is a thread that i would expect on the ego -centric, wank session that is redandwhiteonline.com...

By all reports Moore was stellar on the weekend, which is fantastic. Obviously performing consistently during the regular season is very different to a stand out performance in a pre-season game.
I'm not suggesting at all that Schneider leaving has pre-determined our season, all I am suggesting is that I don't believe it was the wisest body to remove from the list; for all I know it was the only offer we received and they were obliged to turn numbers over. The kid did more than just scored goals on occasion, he counterbalanced some of the Swans players who are defensive before the first bounce.I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
