Schneider: You Don't Know What You've Got 'til It's Gone

I just saw him play for the Saints and how good is he?! I mean, we always knew he was a gun of a player but I'm thinking he's even better than what we gave him credit for.
I guess we're repaying St. Kilda for giving us players such as Hall and Plugger.

    We shall miss the SchneiderMan!

PS I hope we still do make him feel welcome at our next home game.

I never had any doubts he was that good. I still don't quite believe we gave away one of the competition's premier small forwards for...nothing.
He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.

I always knew what we got, way before he was gone. He was my second favourite player. I am still seething at Roos because of that trade. It's the one substantial thing I hold against Roos. Why not Bolton and Dempster? Hell, why not just Dempster? Schneider was still young, and was worth way more than your average mid-twenties pick, but without the risk!
Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!

I'm not sure he'd have the same impact at Sydney, so it's not as simple as saying "He's doing well at St. Kilda, so he would've had a blinder for Sydney"

It's still a silly trade, though, and should never have happened. Losing Malceski just makes the Schneider trade even worse.

I've watched Schneider twice in the St Kilda guernsey now and he has been very good on both occasions.Seems to have a license to run all over the ground and he is very instinctive with his new teamates.
I feel that unless someone really steps up for us this year we are going to be well and truly bitten on the bum with this trade. The lad doesn't seem to have that panicky, anxious expression on his face that he did with Sydney..He obviously has decided to show us why we made a boo boo trading him.Good luck to the lad.

He was okay, but he was inconsistent. You need to wait until the real games start before you can really make a value judgement on whether he is any better than he was at Sydney or just as inconsistent as he always was.

Personally, I've seen heaps of players come and go over the years. I don't think this is any different, and I don't think this trade was as bad as some people here are thinking it was.

I find it amusing that there are many people on these noards screaming for the young plkayers to be given a go, then when someone is traded, allowing that to happen, screaming that this trade shouldn't have happened. There is an old saying, "You can't have your cake and eat it." I think, with some people, Roos is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.

I wasn't sad (or happy) to see Schneider go, but it is too early to say that he is really doing well at the Saints, after all he has played nothing but practice matches with them to date.

Schneider is still a young player.

Their is widespread disbelief that Sydney traded him to the Saints for next to nothing. I've been asked about it a number of times by supporters of other teams. Given that when Schneider was at Sydney he was dropped at times when other players were playing worse than he was, I continue wonder whether this has more to do with personality and attitude than actual performance.

That is pure sophistry, goswannie14. Present plan A, create an illusory choice between options A and B, denying the existance of options C, D, E, etc. We are therefore all wanting to eat our cake and have it too.

As one example of an alternative, they could have persuaded Mathews, Crouch and possibly a couple of others to call it a day and paid their salaries out as 'administrators'.

I think you're on to something. As it was said in a huge thread on RWO last year, most likely he wasn't traded because he's not a good player but because of his attitude to the game and training. We got rid of much lesser players rather quickly if their attitude didn't fit the club culture (Ricky Mott, anyone?). Adam's mind was elsewhere for sure last year and you can't pay a player a very good money and playing him in the 2's to try to wake him up. I think Roos was just trying to do him a favour and save his playing career while there's still some of it left.

I mainly agree with what you are saying.

I can't help wondering if the example you give may start to take place during the season proper. However, it would have made more sense if it happened during the off season.

27 goals for us last season, his second best haul for the Swans. Yep, still seething.

Has anyone considered that the trade might be just the kick in the bum he needed. I remember his dazzling first season but the drop off when he decided he was a star makes Nick D look like Craig Bolton for application. I reckon I'd be trying to impress my new coach too - if my old one was prepared to give me away.

And did you notice that Milne kicked true all night when twice Schneider managed to turn an easy goal into a point.

On the good side, the move may be the making of him. Or he'll find he's in a city where he really is a star - imagine Milne, Montagna and Schneids out on the town . . .

On the really good side, imagine if it's the GF and the Swans are four points up on the Saints and the final siren has gone and he's kicking for goal. I reckon we'd win by 3. (At least, I came to rely on his inaccuracy when he was kicking for us.)

I'm sure being traded was a big kick in the bum.

And I'm sure he is really busting his nuts to set the world on fire at the Saints.
Kind of like a promoted rookie, but one who already has the required skills and experience.

We'll have to wait a few more weeks to see if he has 'come of age' or not, and I suspect that he will become more like the player he was at the Swans - great to watch at times, average at others.

If he does continue to play really well, then the likely reasons are....

                            1. The Saints are getting more out of him than the Swans could.
                            2. His attitude has changed since being traded.
                            3. He really has come of age and grown.

Doesn't matter to me if he becomes a star.
You can't regret trading a player who was definitely a likely candidate based on past form.
                            Kind of like Scott Stevens.
Found a better home at the Cows and is playing better than he did at the Swans.
The difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.

Watched Sneids twice now with the Sainters and have seen him training at the Saints 3 or 4 times now as I have a neighbour who plays with them.
Still really jacked with trade of Sneids !!
I am a believer on its only a practice game and dont think you shouldnt place to much emphasis on whats happening in pre season with young players .
Adam Schneider is a proven performer in big games and that is going to bite us. Has creativity , PACE and kicks goals. Sure turns it over , so do many players though.

In the 2 games he has played for the Saints he has been starting on the wing
and running in and basically getting the first give off a midfielder and then
hitting a moving forward on a regular basis. Also kicked his couple of goals and created a number so far.
We have to find 27 goals this year straight away.
Old Royboy said Jarred Moore went well yesterday getting 3 ,thats great and positive for us though Mooreys hardly a regular as yet.
Im no Nick Davis fan at all, though as Ive said in the past I would always have him in our side simply because he kicks goals.
Old Royboy said about him in his analysis: not much from his limited chances though kicked 2 great goals. Is that Davo not working hard enough or was it limited chances. Always seem to hear that he gets limited chances.

Trading 2 premiership players 1 NSW boy & Father Son for a rookie is ,
well I dont know how to word it . Nothing against Brett Meridith.
Ive got a few Saint mates and they are pumped about Schneiderman as we were when we got Hally & Plugger.
Good Luck to him, hope he doesnt get a kick against us Round 1 , though as the season progresses I have know doubt, injuries aside Adam Schneiders
trade will really hurt us !! mad:
