A very nice tackle too, just after another of his fumbles!

A small forward who can bury his opponent in a teeth shaking tackle and then grab an overhead pack mack in the forward channell against two opponents is a real nightmare for opponents and coaches in terms of match ups. His head on tackle of Thurstens on their half back line would have depressed Williams even more. Bevo playing alongside Big Bustling is not an inviting proposition for the new type of running defenders.

thurstans had nowhere to go,any afl player should be able to tackle like that.

Now this is a thread that i would expect on the ego -centric, wank session that is redandwhiteonline.com...

He made an ARL ball and all tackle. Head tucked to the side and the opponents arms wrapped up. It stopped Thurstons handballing off as well as bringing him to shuddering halt. Most AFL players don't tackle by running straight at their opponents in head on tackles. They will move slightling to the side and attempt to tackle at an angle. And are often brushed aside. I would point out that Thurstens is is a giant and Bevo is a medium sized player. Don't know about any AFL player tackiling like that but the Human Turnstile or Kid Terrific would have been challenged. Didn't see the clangers and Bevo fumbles mainly because he contests the "hot" ball. The two opponents crashing into him as he puts his head over the ball might have something to do with the ball bobbing about. He made one fumbling run into the forward line, found the handle and gave off a good handpass. Didn't see 15 fumbles quite frankly.

Bevan can't be compared to Davis, they are totally different players.

Davis would be competing with players like O'Keefe, Grundy, Barlow types - lead up medium sized forwards.

Bevan is a small back pocket or forward pocket type who can occasionally go on the ball. He is competing with players like Crouch, Mathews etc.

Bevan is getting a game due to Crouch's injury and ahead of Mathews. Few could argue with this logic.

Davis is missing out as Roos is obviously not going to drop O'Keefe and he wants to give the younger guys a run.

Davis is competing with a lot of players. He is the least versatile small player in the club. He is an old fashioned one dimensional forward flanker in a team that requires adaptability and versatility. Young Jack in his first season has more versatility. You mention three roles that Bevo plays, which includes forward flanker. How many can Davis play? Despite what he may think and many posters he is just not that good to justify a stationary position. Schnieder had the same problem.

Davis is capable of, and has in the past, playing off a flank, playing deeper as a crumbing forward and playing deeper as a leading player at full forward. He reguarly pushes up far enough off the flank to be classified as a wing.

I don't think he is that unfit, either, as to not be able to be involved in midfield rotations as he has in the past.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

I don't know if anyone has mentioned Monty yet, 18 pages is a lot to get through.
I thought he was back to his best today, tucking the ball under his arm and breaking the lines and tackles. Disposal was a bit rusty but he looked good.
Ahhh Connolly, you must feel justified, just as I feel justified about McVeigh(at least for one week). Bevan had a great game, he should probably be played up forward more often.

Swan Davis faces battle to return

Swan Davis faces battle to return - realfooty.com.au

                      Roos says:

"Nick's really accepted it (being dropped) well. He understands that we've got to put forward pressure on and that's what better teams are doing ? that's what we demand of our forwards and that's probably the area he's been a bit down in, in the last four or five weeks.

"His fitness is good, it's just getting his mind around it and running and putting pressure on. We don't mind how many goals he kicks, it's just really how much pressure he can put on. We've got to have forwards who chase and tackle and it's something Davo can do. I'm sure he'll be back in the team soon."

Another Swan unlikely to make the trip north is ruckman Peter Everitt. . .

It's great to see McVeigh playing the way we know he can, and Bevan obviously had a good game, too. It's interesting, though, that the same people who didn't want anyone jumping on McVeigh or Bevan's back after a few bad performances, are singing their praises are a couple of good ones.

One player who I used to think was a complete waste was Moore, and he's proved me wrong in the best possible way. He looks faster this year, leaner, and basically like he's a part of the team. With him, Jack and McVeigh playing through the middle and playing to their potential, maybe we wont be as "drab" from now on.

Not bad...took connolly to task on 2 points and you got BOTH of them wrong.

Bevan towelled Brennan at the Gabba last year the week after Brennan had a night out at the MCG against Collingwood.

Peter Burgoyne did zero yesterday, let alone being the only one who could hold his head high.

Pressure creates goals. If the ball goes into a forward line with no pressure, it'll go straight back out.
