It did seem like a pretty careless thing to do. Depends on the footage they have. It wasn't replayed at the ground so fingers crossed it is the same outcome as Baz punching Chris Grant a few years back.

Quite strange that one was missed. All the clues were there then too. Baz and Grant the only players around, Grant hits the deck clutching his stomach, Baz trots away dusting off his fists.

Anyone know how many points he carried over from the last indiscretion?

      There's definitely footage this time.

Quite a few PA players remonstrated with Goodes at the time, but it certainly didn't appear a deliberate attempt to elbow him in the head.

As NMW states, the play had stopped, but this was what actually led Goodes to strike him. PA received a free from a ruck infringement, Goodes finishes with the ball and in the act of returning the ball to the PA ruckman, the PA player is still holding onto him, with the PA player on his knees but holding Goodes' arms. Goodes is trying to release his arms to return the ball and not give a 50 away and swings his elbows around collecting the PA player in the head.

Disclaimer: The above is all taken from memory after watching the replay when I got home from the ground last night.

I think all that is pretty much right as I recall it BBB. Definitely didn't look deliberate, but I think they will deem it to be reckless given the contact.

Well, it's not being reported anywhere. I just done a search of all the papers.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

If that's the case, I've seen players get away with much more. FFS! I'm really not happy with this.

It was certainly commented on at the time. It'll be interesting to see what the Swans do. If it works like last year and gives us back Adam Goodes for the rest of 2008, I'd be prepared to surrender the Brownlow chance for that.

Using pop psychology I wonder if Adam is one of those people who needs a jolt to get the genius flowing?

                      Full story

Goodes has been charged with a level one striking offence against Port Adelaide?s Matt Thomas. This charge doesn?t carry an automatic suspension, but due to Goodes? carry-over points from the previous 12 months, he faces a one-week suspension if he takes an early plea.

He doesn?t risk any extra time on the sidelines if he takes it to the tribunal and is found guilty

Just opened a match review thread on BF, what a silly mistake that was. The idiots (mostly Essendon supporters) seem to think it's only fair because he got away with that hit on the Melbourne player last year.

Um, can someone remind me how he got away with it? He lost any chance of winning the Brownlow, and his good record was the only reason he avoided the 1 week suspension.

AND....he is receiving a match this time due to the carry over points he has from the hit on Simon Godfrey, otherwise this incident would have led to a reprimand.

                              Then why wouldn't you appeal?

Let's see what happens.. I'm expecting the week to stand, if there is footage.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

SYDNEY'S two-time Brownlow Medallist Adam Goodes faces a week on the sidelines after being charged by the match review panel. Goodes has been charged with a level one striking offence against Port Adelaide?s Matt Thomas. This charge doesn?t carry an automatic suspension, but due to Goodes? carry-over points from the previous 12 months, he faces a one-week suspension if he takes an early plea.
