Hey Scotland, do you have the effective disposal stat for each player for 2008 so far? I would like to see how McVeigh ranks.

I found them, he has 78% effective disposals. Now that is pretty good at AFL level, so I don't know why he gets bagged for continually this year to be frank.

McVeigh's disposals have been a lot better this year than in the past. He has never been a penetrating kick, and this is one thing that HASN'T changed. His kicks still have a bit of loop to them, and don't reach their target that quickly. I suspect that is one aspect of his game he will never be able to master. HOWEVER, he is now weighting his kicks really well, so while they aren't as penetrative as a Malceski kick, for instance, they are almost always being put to his teammate's advantage. He has come up with a few really well weighted kicks into the forwardline so far this season. One kick to MOL in the goalsquare against Port stands out. He placed it perfectly between MOL and his opponent who was running back. It was simply a great kick.

His accuracy also seems to have improved, which is good news. Still not the greatest, but good.

At this point in time I'm sure you are right - assuming Fosdike comes back to his pre-injury level. But McVeigh has always more likely to take a ping in front of the big sticks, and he has a few years on Fosdike.

Yes, I think McVeigh has these two things on his side. Depends on whether he can continue to improve.

Interestingly I remember Fosdike's first few years as being very ordinary. He was on RWO 'hitlist' for quite a while, though I think a lot of this was how supporters felt about him as a high draft pick.

I have started to change my thinking on Bevo. He looks super fit, he's more athletic and quicker and more accurate with his disposal.

He's also our resident hard/numb nut. If he was a touch taller he could be our Campbell Brown enforcer type. I think Bevo is in good shape and he's doing his job. It won't be easy for these guys to get back in:

                          Matthews
                          Davis
                          Fosdike

I think Everitt will come back in, LRT to go down back and Reg Grundy will likely miss out.

A successful Malcevski return would be interesting. Not sure who goes back to the ressies for him. It's a fantastic problem to have, because it's keeping everyone on their toes. On last year's form, McVeigh would have been dropped in a hearbeat for Mal.

Baring injury, I can't see anyone else coming back in.

He's made a great start to the year.

Interestingly, his brother Mark has become a much better player over the last 3 years - and gone to another level this year.

Maybe these McVeigh's keep getting better with age!

Funny you say that as Bevan is actually taller than Campbell Brown, by about 6cm (over 2 inches).
